The stuff around the battery contacts could very well be leaking acid, but the residue around the transistor solder points could also possibly be just solder flux that has been left over from the soldering process. It has a tendency to powder and crumble over time. Might not be the crisis you anticipated, I hope it turns out to be benign. :-D
