Oops, I must have done something wrong with my HTTPProxy installation, because I reinstalled HTTPProxy (this time I installed it manually), and now Netsurf correctly shows all pages.

However I didn't notice much of a speedup with most sites.

All visited sites are correctly written to the proxy cache.

Amiga.org doesn't have a speedup after the page was written to the proxy cache. Amigaworld.net was a second faster.
The BBC news page was about 4 seconds faster. Edit: BBC-news actually is much SLOWER when using httpproxy. It takes 10 sec more to load the bbc page when using httpproxy.

Edit: Amiga-news.de also was not noticeably faster.

Edit: I also tested httpproxy with Ibrowse, and with that I do notice a significant speedup.

to check if this is the problem, start the load of a page and deactivate the netsurf window.netsurf should then get taskpri -1.

then always when netsurf fire a internet request http proxy should start immidiatly to send the data, because httpproxy have then a higher taskpri.

to see if netsurf really get taskpri -1 look in scout taskwindow.

maybe you can write the steps you do to get httpproxy working.

When deactivating the netsurf window, it indeed gets taskpri -1.

But even when deactivating the netsurf window, there's still no speedup when using httpproxy.

I just followed the installation guide in the httpproxy archive.

I know Netsurf is reading from the proxy, because when I set the expiration date of the cached files to 1 week (which is the default setting) and
for example the amiga.org website is updated, Netsurf gets the old data from the proxy cache.

there need a 16 bit screen.

can somebody post time values of show and scroll from top to down of the www.amigaworld.net Page by press of Cursor keys ?

Here are values that look really slow

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30109&start=0&post_id=523793&order=0&viewmode=flat&pid=0&forum=2#523673

With me it also took about 7 seconds.

Netsurf is on a WB 1024x768-16 bits screen and the Netsurf window is 1024x768.

With the new version, scrolling is much smoother.

I think the settings in the options file have a lot to do with the speed of netsurf.

I've made some test and played with the max fetchers settings, and again netseurf was a little faster.

Right now under winuae with a 1680x1050 32-bit wb screen and a 1024x768 netsurf window I use the following settings:

min_reflow_period:800
max_fetchers:12
max_fetchers_per_host:12
max_cached_fetch_handles:24

With the old settings, amiga.org used to load in 10 seconds. Now it loads in 6 seconds. Amigaworld.net loads in 3.4 seconds. Scrolling amigaworld.net takes 2 seconds.

On my classic, I have to use a really high setting of min reflow period.
Right now on my classic with a 1024x768 16-bit wb screen and a fullscreen netsurf I use the following settings:

min_reflow_period:1700
max_fetchers:12
max_fetchers_per_host:12
max_cached_fetch_handles:24

With the old settings, amiga.org used to load in 39 seconds. Now it loads in 32 seconds. Amigaworld.net loads in 17.4 seconds. Scrolling amigaworld.net takes 7 seconds.

If I use winuae without JIT and use the min_reflow period setting of my classic (1700), I get about the same loading times as on my classic.

I really think these settings depend on the speed of the system being used, so it may be worth it to try some other settings on your system, and see if it speeds up netsurf.

Made a few more tests. Seems the max cached fetch settings doesn't seem to matter as much as I thought, so I changed it back to 4.

Also under winuae it's best to leave min_reflow_period on 500 (with or without jit).
Setting this on 1700 on my classic, wins me 2 seconds when loading amiga.org.

With these settings on my classic, the fastest time I got with loading amiga.org was 31.7. The fastest I got with amigaworld was 17.5

So these are my current winuae settings:
min_reflow_period:500
max_fetchers:12
max_fetchers_per_host:12
max_cached_fetch_handles:4

These are my current classic settings:
min_reflow_period:1700
max_fetchers:12
max_fetchers_per_host:12
max_cached_fetch_handles:4

The time 17,5 is this load full page ?

Yes, full page load of amigaworld.net is 17.5.

what internet stack you use on classic(miami or amitcp) ?

I use genesis.

the scroll speed 7 sec is because your GFX card do not support rbg15 mode (no PC)
what gfx Card you have ?

I have a picasso IV.

And after how many seconds does the page first show and load visible more data ?

After 12 sec

Quote
so try out to scroll page as soon it is show.most time to read a page or click on a link you need not wait until all is load.

With fetchers on 12 this slowed down a lot.
I set the fetchers on 8 and now scrolling is faster when the page is not fully loaded.

So if you want to scroll the page when the page is not fully loaded and still want a nice speedup, you can use the following settings:

incremental_reflow:0
min_reflow_period:1700
max_fetchers:8
max_fetchers_per_host:8
max_cached_fetch_handles:4

Edit: With these settings amiga.org takes 32.8 sec and amigaworld.net takes 17.7 sec
Scrolling when the page is not fully loaded is the fastest when setting the fetchers to 4, but then amiga.org loads in 37 sec.

Edit2: Setting the fetchers to 6 loads amiga.org in 33.8 sec

@Damion & Bernd

When I set the screenmode to a non-pc mode and use a netsurf-window of 800x600, scrolling of amigaworld.net takes 2-3 seconds.

Strangely, scrolling is slow with any other screenmode (fullscreen or window), including 1024x768 w/an 800x600 window, or even plain 800x600 rgb16 fullscreen.

I've only tried a 1024x768 non-pc 16bits screenmode, and with a netsurf window of 1024x768 scrolling is slow again.

If you boot WB using a 1024x768x16 screenmode, and run p96speed using the same mode, you'll get very slow results in the following tests:

BlitBitMap()
BlitBitMapRastPort()

Between about 400 and 800 in each test.

However, if you start WB in 800x600, then start p96speed and select the 1024x768x16 test screenmode, everything changes. Here on my A2000:

BlitBitMap() - 5660
BlitBitMapRastPort() - 5256

Hope that made sense. :/

On my a4000 I bootup with a 1024x768x16 screenmode.

When I run the blitbitmap tests I get:
BlitBitMap() - 5415
BlitBitMapRastPort() - 4540

You can show amigaworld page faster than other.Have you cyberpatcher or oxypatcher install ?
.maybe that speed up things. netsurf is compile for 68040.

Yes, I run Cyberpatcher.

But I just ran Netsurf without Cyberpatcher and I get the same speed.

@Bernd

I think the speed of a full page load with Netsurf heavily depends on the ISP and where you are located.

For example, Damion can load amiga.org in 20 sec. The fastest I got was 31.5 sec.
Amigaworld.net always loads fast (between 17.5 - 18.5 sec), except when my other family members are using the internet quite heavily (watching videos).

Edit: If I visit some asian webpage, it's very very very slow even on my PC. I think if I try this on my classic, it would take forever.

Maybe the person who has slow page load times with amigaworld can try with Ibrowse to see if that is much faster. If it is, there must be something else going on.

With Ibrowse I get a full pageload of amigaworld.net in 10 sec.
Edit: In Ibrowse I disabled the diskcache. With diskcache enabled it loads in 7 sec.
