I'm not sure that I understand your question. Are you implying that in the future all applications would need to be purchased, registered and potentially hosted at MS store?

I honestly had not heard that they were pursuing this.

For anything other than the software that MS makes and markets or has partnered with, it seems impractical. For example: How would you acquire and run 3rd party applications? How would this work for Open-Source?
