I remember very clearly my introduction to the amiga. My older brother became friends with one of his teachers and would visit him fairly regularly. When my mum picked him up one time I went along for the ride, and in this guys bungalow he had a bunch of computers, one of which was the brand new amiga1000. I was pretty gobsmacked and fell in love then and there. From then on Id try to tag along whenever I could, just to have a play on the amiga. I tried to talk my mum into getting me one, but it wasnt until the a500 was released that she caved in and bought me and my brother one. We both stayed pretty passionate about the amiga well after most people had left the scene, but unfortunately my brother eventually lost interest in the recreational side of computers in general (side effect of working with them 18hours a day I guess), let alone the amiga. That said however he does on occasion surprise me with what he knows of the current state of amiga and he actually did buy an a1xe g4 some years ago (which I think he sold after delegating it to be used as a ppc linux server for a while). I had it for a while and was going to buy it, but despite a nice price I couldnt afford it at the time, so after a few months gave it back.
