Still, is there no way to get around using the Windows dialer??

Might I suggest DSL or cable?

Seriously, though, I think you CAN install and run a TCP stack on the emulated Amiga.  You'll probably take a fairly significant performance hit, though.  (The serial.device emulation isn't exactly fast...)  In your WinUAE properties (under Game and IO ports), you have to have "Serial" set to the COM port your modem is on.  And set to "Direct" mode, I think.  Also, make sure your BSDSocket emulation is turned OFF, in this case...

Then, open the emulation and load a terminal, and see if you can type an AT command to the modem.  Once you get the emulation talking to the modem, the rest of the TCP install should be similiar to a real Amiga.  Of course, I don't know if Termite TCP works in UAE.  I've never heard of anyone trying it.  I believe I remember someone said they got Genesis running, though.  So it might be possible...

Anyhow, after doing all of this, it probably won't be as stable a connection as letting Windows handle it, and then using the BSDSocket emulation.  (The BSDSocket emulation is certainly more tested than the serial device!)

When I start IBrowse it drops me out of UAE and back to the Windows screen. Don't know why yet....

Bummer.  What happens if you try to open IBrowse with the BSDSocket emulation turned off?  Will it let you view local .html files?  Maybe there's something causing IBrowse, itself, to bomb out?  (MUI problem?)  Might not be a TCP/IP issue, at all...
