Got up to the Trident configuration screen, but I promised my daughter I will stop playing with the computer and go play with her in the yard. Will get back to it a little later. Sorry for the suspense, guys. :-)

Man, those laserbeam sound effects on the Deneb intro screen scared me to death. I had the sound up high and the monitor turned away from me when it started, so I didn't realize what was happening on the screen. I thought I was frying something good!

Take your time and play with that daughter of yours for as long as she stays interested.  They grow up so fast and then they don't want to have anything to do with you, unless it is to ask for money, or borrow the car.  Then they are gone and you are lucky to see them on holidays and birthdays.

When you do have time to get back to the Deneb, let us all know what you are going to use.  Are your primary reasons for getting it to use USB keyboard and mouse, or was the KickFlash a primary reason to boot the 3.9OS without the usual double-clutching, or do you have a CSPPC and you are going to boot MorphOS for PuP from the Deneb?

@amigadave & all

I just put a Deneb in my A3000 (serial #31!). I have now eliminated the "Double clutching" by moving the rom update & scsi 43.45 patch to flashrom. It now boots about 3x as fast. A 1gb USG thumb drive measures faster than my 9GB SCSI hard drive connected to my WarpEngine. Cool piece of kit!

Nice!  I think that is one of the best selling points, moving the ROM and all the updates to the 2mb Flash memory. @mbrantley, the double clutching is that second boot when running OS3.5, or 3.9.  It causes very long boot times, at least for an Amiga that is.

Let us know how the printing works out, I am wondering if it needs special drivers for each printer other than the parallel port drivers when used via the USB of the Deneb?

From reading this thread it seems that the person having trouble either did not get sufficient documentation and setup instructions with their Deneb, or they have not bothered to read everything that came with their new toy.

I hope the first case is not true, it is a PITA to get a new Amiga peripheral and have to struggle for weeks to get it working correctly, or you have to be an expert to know how to get it working.

I am guilty of being one of those that wants to just plug in a new Zorro card or device and have a Install file that sets it up with just a dozen or so questions answered (call me lazy).

Can anyone verify what kind of setup utility comes with the Deneb?  Give us a complete review of it and what comes in the box.

The package contains the hardware, a manual and a
registration card. The installation software is in
the flashrom of the card. This was done, because there
are many people with problematic floppy disk drives.
Installation was a breeze. Insert the card in a free
Zorro slot, set the RESCUE jumper and power on the
system. In workbench a virtual disk is automatically
mounted with the installation software on it. Install
the software, power off the system and remove the RESCUE
jumper. Then power on again. Poseidon and Luciferin
both come with very clear documention in amigaguide format.
I had the Deneb installed in less then half an hour,
including software installation and configuration.
All of my USB devices are recognized (cardreader,
printer, scanner, flashdrives etc. ). Michael Boehmer
and Chris Hodges delivered a top product. I have no regrets
buying the Deneb card. If people have any doubts buying
this card, don't hesitate. It works beautifully and the
speed is incredible.

Lloyd

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Do you already have drivers for your scanner, printer and card reader, did they come with the Deneb, or does the Deneb automatically work with any USB scanner, printer and card reader?

It does sound impressive the way you have described it and I do plan to get one this month if I can squeeze enough money out of the budget.

........Add to that the fact that my Buddha card has gone tits-up and reports any drives connected to it as gibberish and I've not been having an easy time.

One interesting note for the developers:  With the Buddha card inserted, the software on the Deneb Flash ROM doesn't come up in rescue mode.  It does once the Buddha card is removed.

I don't think I will be using my Buddha card in the same Amiga as the Deneb if/when I buy the Deneb, but the problem is strange and I hope Chris find the bug and squashes it fast.

I wonder if it is just your Buddha that is causing the problem, or if all Buddha cards will have the same problem with a Deneb installed?

@Darrin,

Have they checked your wife's breathing rate?  I have an irregular heart beat from time to time that was traced to the fact that my respiration is very slow, half what is normal and I have a lung capacity that is 20% to 30% larger than normal for my body weight (something to do with being athletic when I was young, I ran everywhere).  They told me that when carbon-dioxide builds up in my lungs it can trigger an additional heart beat that is out of sync with my normal rhythm and can feel like my heart has skipped a beat.  When it happens several times in quick succession it feels like my heart has stopped for several seconds and can be painful.  I look down at my chest and ask "are you going to start back up, or what?"

There was no treatment recommended, but it is still troubling and I think I am going to get a second opinion soon, but it does not happen often and sometimes I can go for many months without a single occurance.  Hope this is helpful, and if it is not the case for your wife, at least you can rule out one more possible cause.

@mbrantley,

Let us know how the USB networking goes on the Amiga, what was the price for the USB networking adapters?
