Finally got SMBFS to work(sort of)
« on: September 03, 2004, 01:27:40 AM »
Well, I finally got SMBFS to connect my Amiga to my PC. I just figured I'd post a few tips for anyone else who goes through this little adventure.

1. SMBFS doesn't seem to like having Samba running.
2. You can't use any special characters in your Computer's Name
3. Windows98/ME/XP systens don't like the /all to access there drives.
4. Don't do anything else after you start your TCP/IP stack before running SMBFS
5. Be prepared for your Amiga to Guru (always) when you try to stop SMBFS
6. Be prepared for your Amiga to crash (somtimes) when you start SMBFS

I am running O.S.3.5 on a 2000, FusionForty 040/28 1meg chip, 32meg fast, using Emunet to access a Lynksys ISA netcard(NE2000) through a 286 bridgeboard. I have tried with both AmiTCP 4.0(Demo) and Miami(version included in O.S.3.5). I have no accessing the internet(via dsl/ethernet) or accessing my Amiga from the PC's with Samba running on the Amiga. The only thing I can figure now is it is the bridgeboard/net setup, I am going to try a fresh install when my X-surf board arrives (thanks to Redrumloa for putting them in his sale) and see what happens then.

@patrik

Thanks for the tip. Setting the stack up to 66000 solved all the problems except for using
the /all to access all the drives on the PC.

I ave about a 2 to 3 week wait for my X-Surf (on back order), does the install disk
have settings for AmiTCP ?

I was playing around last night and I found I could access my Amiga using SMBFS from
Amiga Forever running on my PC. I thought it was pretty cool networking my real Amiga
to an emulated Amiga. I know, I need to get a life.
