Only way to know what the problems are is to open up the A1200 and inspect the mainboard for issues/problems. See if you can see of any issues such as rust etc..

Out of a matter of interest, who recapped and repaired this for you? Who has been recommended to you?

I can't see anything wrong with the board.

I don't want to say who recapped and repaired it for me, because I don't know if anyone else could have done a better job.

My recommendation was from a few users at a recent Amiga meeting. It's someone I'd never heard of before, but they said he was reliable and could get repairs done quickly. That sounds great to me!

There are quite a few really good repairers and recappers around.

For a start Ian@Mutantcatterpillar based at Anglesey in Wales if you want to stick to the U.K to Hese in Scandinavia.

Unfortunately there are some chancers who think they know what they are doing….. 🙄

I've just bought one CIA chip from eBay, but from what I can tell it's not a surface mount type CIA chip because it has pins pointing down, so I wonder if or how I can use it as a replacement. I can't upload a pic of it. It's marked 8520A-1 3490 24. Others similar to this are available now on eBay.

I've started watching some Amiga repair videos on eBay Germany in German, but there doesn't seem to be that many of them. The magazine Amiga Future has done some and individual users have done others. I've started watching this one https://youtu.be/HmhVORtW2-k?si=H3eXRbLBeyucsWkV

Okay. So first off, there are many Amiga Repair channels on YouTube:

For example:

Chris Edwards channel:

Stu Huds Channel:

That one you linked up to appears to be stoned on drugs! 😳

To test Amigas, you can buy DiagROMs or download and use Amiga Test Kit (ATK).

With DiagROM you just need to get hold of the 2 x Chips and replace your KickStart ROM chips.
As for no display. Then you can use DiagROM via a Serial to USB cable to a PC and use something like PuTTY to output the DiagROM screen. Chris Edwards has these types of video when he repairs A3000 and A4000 Amigas.

As for the CIA chip removal. I would watch the videos on DiagROM first before spending needless monies on chips that you may not need to replace. DiagROM and ATK can test CIA chips.
