3D Object Converter for AmigaOS 3.x / 4.x
« on: September 18, 2024, 12:01:23 PM »
This year I ported the 3D Object Converter for Windows version under AmigaOS 3.x / 4.x:

It is a powerful 3D polygon model translation and interactive viewing shareware tool that allows
arbitrary 3D model data to be imported from external sources, exported to various industry standard 3D file formats.

The program supports 885 file formats.

Supported classic Amiga-systems:
- 68020 CPU or higher,
- AmigaOS 3.0 or higher,
- Magic User Interface (MUI) 3.8 or higher.
- 32 MB RAM
- TCP/IP Stack (Internet connection for the web updater)

Supported Amiga compatible systems:
A600GS, AmigaOne A1222+, PiStorm32 Lite

Web page:
http://3doc.i3dconverter.com

3d model samples:
http://3doc.i3dconverter.com/downloads/3d_sample_models.lha

These programs inspired me to develop an own 3d model conversion software:

Short story:

The first version was the 3D Object Converter for MS-DOS:
http://3doc.i3dconverter.com/media/DOS_1main.bmp

The second version was the 3D Object Converter for Windows:
http://3doc.i3dconverter.com/img/3dc_main_1.png

After it I ported the Windows version under OSX / macOS and Linux (64 bit) operation systems:

That looks like an exceptional software. Does it support though the Amiga 3D applications? Can I convert an object for Cinema4D 4.5?
If yes, I am definitely interested in your app.

I collected the Amiga related supported formats:
3D Professional .3dp   L / S
Draw 4D .d4d   L / S
Draw 4D Pro .d4d   L / S
DynaCADD Exchange Format .def   L / S
Imagine .obj   L
LightWave 3D v5.x .lwo   L / S
LightWave 3D v6.x .lwo   L
Maxon Cinema 4D XL V5.x .c4d   L
Real 3D RPL .rpl   L / S
Reflections   .r3d   L
Reflections   .r4d   L
Sculpt 3D/4D Scene .scene L / S
Sculpt 3D Script .script L / S
Sculpt 4D Script   .script L / S
VideoScape 3D ASCII .geo   L / S
VistaPro ASCII Elevation Data 258x258 .txt   L
VistaPro Binary Elevation Data 258x258 .bin L

I did find nothing on the Net about the Cinema4D 4.5.
Which file formats supports this program?

Could you use the Wavefront's .obj/mtl import format in Cinema4D 4.5?

Thanks for the converter!  It works on my AmigaOne A1222+ (though rotation is slow, because the A1222+ doesn't have a FPU).

Thank you for your test.

Can you write me your AmigaOS and MUI version?

Good stuff, @KZ_3D !

btw, the missing Drag&Drop loading should be fairly easy to implement. ;)

I added the Drag and Drop support (to load object) to my program already. Did you try it?

Just use the Help/ Check for updates function to get the latest program version.

@KZ_3D
I watch your work with this excellent converter. I would like to ask about Cinema 4D on Amiga. We currently have v4.x available, but it seems your application supports v5 XL. Do you know if these are compatible?

They use different file formats. I have the file format descriptions of the v4.x and v5.x formats, but unfortunately I don't have v4.x sample files.
I think I can create a new v4.x .c4d loader module based on my v5.x module.

@KZ_3D
Also, I saw that your app can convert to STL, which means that could help someone who designs something on LightWave or any other 3D application on Amiga that is supported, to 3D print their creations? Is that true? Is this tested?

That is true, it is fully tested.

The Stereolithography .stl export module is the one of the most frequently used ones in my program based on the user feedbacks.

If you send me some sample files, I will convert these files to .stl format and I will send the converted files back to you to test the result.

I've installed latest 3D Object Converter v1.10 on my AmigaOne A1222+, and it still works well.  In fact, rotation speed may be a little faster.  :)

Did you use the Help/Check for updates function... to get the latest version?

The user experience is the same on the AmigaOS / macOS / Linux / Windows.  :)

I tried updating with the /help/update item and it updated with no problems; however,  when it tried to start the newer version I got a DSI error 80000003 which couldn't be ignored.  I was able to kill that program and it worked fine when I started it again from AmiDock.

Are you running it on Nintendo DS really?

Can you tell me your AmigaOS / MUI version?

Which Amiga emulator are you using on it?
