Has the XC compiler been ported over to HyperionOS or will tinkerers still have to use a windows/mac/linux machine to compile their binaries for "xena"?

Dropping memory

They didn't save squat skimping on the ram. Ram costs practically nothing and they know folks will try and run blender on the thing just because. OWB or that 10 versions behind port of fireyiff with a dozen tabs open, doxbox and blender, yea, 1gb of ram is paltry. Perhaps there's an issue that hasn't been ironed out with the memory situation they're not talking about.

Not sure Id have used "HyperionOS" as it makes it sound like an attack (whether it is or not I dont really care, far be it for me to tell you what to say or think), but that aside that's actually a pretty reasonable question. Seems crazy to have a novelty and not be able to use it properly from that machine.

XMOS still doesn't have their XC compiler listed in their oss section in the developer tools area. Last I heard from the CEO was that it was their plan to release it but only after they had finalized the language a bit more.

that's what the beta program is for

Nah, the whole point of the beta test "program" was to lock in sales before the hype caved in and interest dissipated. It was a hedge against failure.

Do programs for the Sam 460 run on the X1000 (binary compatible)? Do programs for the X1000 run on the Sam 460 (besides the ones that require the xmos)?

Right now testers have reported that some apps that run across the current OS 4 base don't run on the x1000 yet.

I hope that he does well and sell lots of them.

Good luck Trevor and crew...

Why? The whole thing has been a disaster in the making and some of the main people involved are just short of criminal. I hope it reaps the reward it deserves.

@matt3k

I wish everyone else felt like you. Unfortunately there are people who just want to see AmigaOS 4 fail, for one reason or another.

It seems to me that nobody wants to see AOS4 fail more than the people responsible for it.

I think you should explain that remark or retract it. He may have been coy about the expected cost originally but I don't see what Trevor has done that could be construed as "just short of criminal". There was never any suggestion (correct me if I am wrong) that it was going to be cheap.

I said some of the people, not Trevor specifically, although he should be taken to task for all this Xorro and Xena nonsense. We still see people with stars in their eyes dreaming about using that stupid microcontroller to do all kinds of impossible things like emulate OES, AGA and entire platforms, and Trev has done nothing to give potential customers any kind clue as to what of reasonable things can be done with that xs1l2. Ben Hermans on the other hand, I don't think I need to explain.

I don't understand why people here are getting critical of its price. If you don't want to spend that much money on a computer then don't. I'm sure the people who do will thoroughly enjoy their new computer.

Also i don't see how Aeon is being criminal. No one is forcing you to buy one. If you don't want one don't buy one.

My comment has nothing to do with the price (who cares?), it's about misrepresentation of the product and the character of some of the people involved in this production.
