Some games not working on real Amiga using ClassicWB
« on: December 28, 2012, 10:12:51 AM »
I've had great fun over the last couple of months setting my real Amiga back up and fixing glitches in hardware and software (see end post for details so I can concentrate on the problem I need help with).

However, I'm still having problems with the following:

Wolfenstein - Gets as far as the intro graphic (pic of soldier walking down corridor) but then hangs & the HD light stays on. The game works using the drive image in WinUAE. I use the setup from Cammy: http://amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55652&highlight=wolfenstein&page=2

Alien Breed 3d II under WHDload - 'Not enough Chip mem' error after the credits screen. I use this slave: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=57716. This happens on my real amiga and with the drive image in WinUAE.

Both of the above happen under full classicWB or under the stripped down workbench startup option.

ShapeShifter - seems slow (in 16 colours) even with muevd video driver. Am I just expecting too much? I used Cammy's advice and images. http://amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=56246&highlight=shapeshifter (Yes, I'm a big fan of Cammy and her work).

Setup: CBM A1200 with 3.0, ClassicWB Full, 1230 MK 4, 32 MB 60ns RAM, ROM mapped to Fast RAM, CD ROM and 800MB 2.5" HD with latest PFS.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Issues encountered and overcome:
Mouse pointer not moving horizontally - turns out the LED transmitter was not aligned with receiver AFTER I had resoldered all the wired.

Large files corrupted on read on real Amiga - reduced the maxtransfer rate.

Crashes on boot or DH0 not found errors - also fixed by reducing maxtransfer.

Various WHD load games issues - discovered how to disable the patches on ClassicWB or use the 'safe mode' boot up.

@ChaosLord Yes, call me crazy :-) but I have a real 3.0 ROM and no softkicking. The Blizz is 50 MHz. I don't have an FPU.

Fblit is one of the patches that is included in classicWB pre-configured. The 'safe mode' boot up goes into WB without the patches enabled. They can also be enabled and disabled from the WB menu when in normal mode. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I've done some testing and have ended up reinstalling both Awolf3d and AB3DII straight onto the real Amiga and both now work. Perhaps something corrupted on the install under UAE or when I cloned the setup to the real HD.

I recommend classicWB as all the preconfigured settings make it a very usable OS.
