How can you Copy Amiga CDs
« on: February 19, 2004, 09:51:21 PM »
I am new to this board, as you will see.  I looked around the forums and couldn't find the answer to what seems a simple problem.  So I shall ask...

I have been asked how one can copy a program CD for an Amiga system using a windows machine.  I had never heard of Amiga until the subject came up, so I am at a loss.  I get the impression from reading around the forum that this type of computer uses a unique OS.  I have not laid eyes on the machine and have asked for further details such as model, etc.

Any help with tools, ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Modification (Software/hardware) of the Amiga machine is not an option.

Thank you.

Not to worry, I am not an MS snob.  It's just the OS I know.  I'm THAT close to turning my old 133mhz laptop into a Unix machine of some flavor, just to get some experience.

I'm the resident Network and Sytems Guru here at work, so I get the hard cases.  It's amazing how the ability to find answers equates to genius status.  :-D

Just so I'm clear:  Any duplicating software (Nero, EasyCD, etc.) run on a windows machine, doing a disk copy operation, will yield a functional copy of a disk for an Amiga machine?

Just so you're clear:  The disk being copied is legally in our hands and the purpose of the copy is to ensure that we don't lose use of the software due to wear on the original disk.  We have one copy and it is not in the greatest of shape.    :-(

Thank you so much for your assistance on this.

New question:  How do I copy the boot floppies for Amiga?

The question had been third handed to me and presented as CD needing copying.  What needs to be done is for the floppies to be copied.  There is a set of these disks that the system boots from.  They are they same size as a 3 1/2 inch floppy for a windows machine.  I don't know for sure that they aren't some weird format.  Can these be copied using a Win machine?  Or, using DOS, Unix...

The garbled information I recieved from the source of this problem begins to make sense...

The problem I have is that there is no available Amiga machine to copy with. :boohoo:

The critter these disks are for is a special configuration made by Commodor using the Amiga system.  No keyboard, and we are not allowed to unseal the cabinet the machine's in.  The only user input method is a mouse or the specialized input devices attached.  Support wise, we're screwed because this is an antique and we're the bastard stepchildren.

I guess I'm now looking for someone local with a functioning Amiga.  Anyone here from the northeast US?
