Hi

This consist (more or less) of the Horn Motif from Richard Wagner's "Siegfried", the third part of the "Ring des Nibelungen", transposed four half-tones down. The diagnostic routines of the boot ROM of the A1000 were written by a man called Siegfried Bleher.

(found in "The Amiga Guru Book")

Hi

> Did all revisions of the A1000 chime on bootup, or did someone just pull my leg!!!

As I know, all A1000 play this melody during system check. The melody is played only after a cold start (power on) just before the floppy disk drive is accessed to read the Kickstart disk that should be placed there.
Maybe your A1000 has a rework to use a Kickstart ROM instead of a disk ? Then this sound may not occur.
Or you have powered-on your monitor too late ?

The tones are output over various channels, so you should even hear something if your left or right audio-channel is dead.
