The reason for these skyrocketing prices is HOARDERS. Thats right, guys out there (many on this board ) with multiple amigas fully loaded (that they dont even use!) with rare parts. Meanwhile, guys who really want rare parts to build an amiga again or to upgrade an old machine are pretty much screwed.
The irony is these very same guys start threads crying about ebay prices. How laughable.
Having said all this, we have to be proud that the Amiga platform commands high prices no atari, pc, or mac systems retain value like this.
I agree with this, in some cases I think I'm 10 years too late and missed out on the fair prices.
My dream machine is a fully decked out 4000D, not just to have it on display but to be able to use it. So I've aimed for a 1200 setup which is great, but if I mention 060 the price escalates far too high. So I'm very happy that Jen's is selling new hardware, although I do wish there were some new 060 boards about. Maybe then the prices will drop?
What the kicker is if I wanted to get into a fully loaded Atari I could pickup a rather nice system for $200NZD locally.
The mere mention of the word Amiga adds an extra $1000 to that price. The weird thing is it's only in small circles that the Amiga is a cool thing to be involved in.
If I mention my Amiga fetish to people outside of the retro circle i.e. 90% of the people I know they look at you in a very strange way. Even fellow computer geeks I know, so I keep it to myself.
Horders and people that camp on ebay auctions then re sell them on ebay at twice the price are what annoy me.
I've been outbid several times by a certain someone on ebay only to see them relist the item later on at a higher price.
