You will always get lag with digital monitors.  Its the way they work.  The only thing that varies is how long the lag is.

Digital monitors work by inputting the whole entire video frame.  1 frame of lag.

Once they have the whole entire frame sitting in memory then they scale it from the size of the input gfx to the size of the output gfx.

If they could scale this really fantastically fast then it would add +0 more frames of lag.  But more realistically you are looking at +1 to +3 frames of lag added.  It all depends how optimized their software is and how powerful their scaling hardware is and how fast their RAM is and so forth.

Supposing there are 2 frames of lag total.  Why?  Why would you buy a small LCD monitor with 2 frames of lag when you can buy a small CRT monitor with 0 frames of lag?

CRT Monitors work by instantaneously inputting, scaling and outputting the incoming video signal 1 line at a time.  They don't wait around all day for the whole frame to transmit.  They output and scale each line as it comes in, in real time.  0 frames of lag.

The only reason to buy an LCD monitor is if you need a giant screen.  But if you need a Giant screen then DLP monitors are (or were) cheaper.   Plasma monitors were reasonably large and around the same price as LCD.  I haven't checked prices lately, sorry.

5 years ago I decided to get a giant monitor.  I went for size and price.  Yes its laggy like an LCD.  But at least it was massively larger and cheaper per square inch than an LCD.  I got a 61" DLP monitor/tv with a pile of inputs and and LED backlight for $2400.00 5 years ago.  Back then an LCD of that size did not even exist but if they did they would have been something like $20,000.00

I mainly use the 61" for watching movies or playing strategy games.  My brothers use it to play PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii games on it.  The Xbox 360 and PS3 look really really amazing on the HDMI input.  The Wii looks all fuzzy and blurry on the composite input.

For my Amiga use I use 19" or 17" multisync CRT monitors on Amigas equipped with flickerfixers.  That way the monitor does not add lagginess and games and animations can instantly change any pixel of any color to any other color instantly.    Most LCD monitors cannot change a pixel from any color to any other color instantly.  Some color combinations are "too far apart" so it ends up taking longer than 1 frame to change the pixel.  This makes really scewey looking fringing when playing games and it can even happen during movies, which is ridiculous since movies have such a tremendously slow framerate.
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA
