I'm still trying to figure out why someone paid 600+ for "The Kristal"

I haven't dealt with ebay for years, so I really taken back with these prices. I should be able to get rich off of my old Amiga parts. I wonder what a nice, classic A1000 would bring?

Fair condition - $30
Perfect condition - $60
Prefect condition with origibal boxes and matched 1080 monitor - $150

...I collect only Amiga 1000 items :-)

Tj:

1) Yes, you are nuts.  Though I know how rare that book is.

2) I did look around for any DKB stuff to help you out when you asked before, but came up empty.  I have a Spirit board and could look in the case and tell you what it's lines are attached to, but I think we decided that this was different than the DKB?

Just curious - why not a SOTS expander like the C-Ltd ones you see on ebay every few weeks.  There's one up there now
Amiga 1000 expander

Alternately - I get internal and external expansions all the time for the 1000.  Shaf is mailing me some 1000 stuff I traded him for within the next few weeks (was delayed due to Canada customs strike) and he says there's a 2MB Comspec SOTS with that stuff.  When it arrives, I'll trade you for a 16KB Atari 800 Mem cart or an Amiga 2000 battery repair job if you like.

Actually,, I don't really have a preference.  Almost all 1000 controllers were slap-on-the-side, so one that offers a pass-thru is really useful.  One of the other users here (Shaf) gave me his A1000 gear, and among it was a controller by Comspec that aledgedly autoboots and supports KS 3.1...  I have not gotten a chance to try it yet.

I would love to get a hold of a Phoenix Mobo replacement for the 1000 - this is one of the few ways I know of to get an internal SCSI controller and keep the 1000 looking totaly stock.

For nostalgia, my favorite controller was the PaloMax, which was a homebrew ISA RLL controller interface and driver.  It was slow and could never autoboot, but it was all I could afford back then (and it used MFM/RLL drives!)

Realisticly, the easiest thing to get for a 1000 now is a Microbotics Starboard with the SCSI option.  I see these somewhat frequently on eBay, and even see some online sellers list them from time to time.

Last time I checked, e-bay is an auction website. Therefore, it is a bidding process. Highest bidder wins! Yes, there are shill bidders and overpriced items. My experience as a seller on e-bay has been about timing. Which equates to getting  the most money for your item. For example, an Amiga fan who doesn't network through websites like this one. Finds a chip or part that they need and its the only one listed at that time. Time is an issue for this buyer and Not money. They bid on it untill they win. How much money they end up spending in the end is their  business. Not yours.......Move on!!!

Hmm.. I disagree. Something is very odd about a game selling for US$500-$1000 that you can still buy from one of the online dealers for less than it's original price. That's been the case with Xenon 2 and Krytal.

...Now Turbo or Mind Walker or Ports of Call or something like that... You can't just buy these online.  I can see those fetching a higher-than-new price.

I've mailed some of the winning biders of these super-priced auctions to see what motivates them to pay so much for a game.  I have yet to get a reply for any of them.

I agree is isn't my business what others pay, but I'm beggining to suspect something of a hoax going on:  Seller places rare-seeming collectable online, has other accounts bid the item up, and then the auction closes at an insane price.  Next, he lists the same item under a different account, and sells it for much less and watches as some legit buyers bid it up fairly high, having observed how high the last one sold, and thinking how fortunate they are to be getting a crack at buying the same title a bit cheaper.

By the way, Kristal made "Retro Gamer" magazine's "Acution Watch" section.  Thay called out that recent $1000+ auction and said that thier game collecting experts could find n oreason or precident for any Amiga game selling this high.

I do not...

I do have the issue of Retro Gamer (vol 1 issue 10)where they mention the Krystal that sold for 367 pounds.  By my math that's around $700!  So I was wrong about RG saying it feteched $1000 - but I'm pretty sure there's a thread here where we really did see Krystal fetch $1000.

PS Tj:
Speaking of paying way too much for something...
I bought an Amiga 1000 system that looks to have a DKB Insider RAM board.  Once I get it, I'll let you know what the leads are connected too!
