XP SP2 I just went and had to try it, sigh...
« on: September 21, 2004, 03:50:15 AM »
OK I have scoured a few XP forums, and checked out micro-boft's sites and have not seen evidence of my seemingly unique side effect of having installed SP2.

The actual SP2 installation went well, and has not caused any real problems gaming, emulation, or Internet connections, aside from a noticeable increase to boot time (…yet).

I use Visual Studio C++. NET (Version 2002) patched with the latest security jpeg buffer overun fix, and have found that when running my SDI apps, with custom created fonts, the document is now displayed in a ‘zoomed out’ state(similar to a print pre-view), rendering the smaller fonts too small to be read easily.

Why do I ask the Amiga community for help on this you ask? Because I have found the Amiga users are extremely knowledgeable, and seem to have a genuine desire to help. They also seem to have the funniest wise ass comments that help lower the increased blood pressure resulting from XP ‘exasperation…

I was able to successfully restore to the Pre-SP2 install, and everything is back to normal.

Anyone else see strange effects from this SP similar to this?

That's the million dollar question, as I installed both prior to to testing the app unfortunately. I suppose I have to re-install again to be sure.

I appreciate you offer to test the app for me. If you wish to pmail me an email address I can send it to you. (It is quite small approx 350 kb).

It looks like my problem was NOT an XP SP2 issue I am sorry to say. I traced the problem to my ATI Radeon 7000 card.

As with any patch, I faithfully upgraded my catalyst drivers to the latest Sept 2004 release prior to installing SP2.

I restored back tp the old drivers, and SP 1, and my display problem went away, and my custom fonts were drawn to the scale I intended.

I then updated the latest ATI drivers and was surprised to see the screwed up display again! So I installed SP2 again, and then rolled back the ATI drivers (again!), and now I get a proper display in my app.

Damm, I was having fun blaming Micrsoft.

Perhaps I should rename this thread to:

"ATI Radeon I just went and had to try it, sigh..." :-?

Thanks 'adolescent' for your help on this!
