No, they are saying that with your current setup it won't work. You would be better off getting a 540-1000MB 2.5" IDE drive. As for transferring data, you can run two drives off the one controller.

Oooo...didn't think of that...sorry, then he's better off getting a 2nd hand A1200, or if he has a PC with WinUAE and a couple of "IDE to mini-IDE" converters he could do it. Its amazing what you can do with WinUAE.

@RedWarrior

WinUAE will detect drives that have Amiga partitions on them and you can mount them accordingly, what you could do is create a virtual partition and install WB on that, this way you have something to work with, then you take the drive from your A600 and connect it to your PC's IDE controller using the "IDE to mini-IDE" converter, now fire up WinUAE and you should be able to select the entire A600 drive and mount it. Now you can copy the contents of the A600 drive to another virtual drive. Once done, format your new drive, install it in your PC and copy the contents of the virtual drive to the new drive...does that at all make sense?? Sorry its 12AM and I'm dog tired.

Windows XP has abandoned DD disks, you will need Win 2K or below. You need not worry about your Amiga data, nothing will happen to it, i've done far crazier things than that and never lost data. If I had the time, I'd probably offer to do it for you seeing as your in Melb, but it really isn't that hard.
