Amiga 500 Motherboard Revision 6 RAM upgrade ?
« on: August 24, 2003, 09:51:22 AM »
Hi folks,

My friend gave me an Amiga 500 system.  My intent for this computer was to remove all of the parts from it that could be used on my more professional Amiga 2000HD.  When I opened up this Amiga 500 (on a anti-static work station) I noticed that the motherboard was a revision 6.  It only has the 4 - 256k X 4 DRAMs for a total of 512k of Chip RAM.  There are also places on the board to solder on 4 - 20 pin IC sockets and then plug in 4 more 256k X 4 DRAMs for a total of 1 meg of Chip RAM.  Does anybody know if all I need is to add the additional memory or do I also need to solder other parts (.33 uF filtering caps, Resister packs, jumpers, etc.)?  Will this Rev. 6 motherboard take the Super-Denise and Kickstart 3.1?  It already has the 1 meg Agnes.   ;-)

That's right!  I am the DoomMaster of the PC version of DOOM and DOOM 2.  Doom is now rated by all video game experts (including myself) as the best video game of all time!  There have been more clones of Doom made then any other video game.  Think about it, where do you think games like Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Blood, Quake 2, Voyager Elite Force, etc. came from?  ALL of these kinds of games are Doom clones.  Please note:  I invented the 3D idea for video games but my idea was originally meant for Role Playing Adventure games not First Person Shooters.  My famous HGC series of maps for Doom 2, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior and Blood are well known on the Kali Game Server   :-D

hmm... excuse me if im wrong but doesnt 4x256=1024? which would mean it has 1mb of chip ram.... not 512k?... sorry for pointing out the obvious...

Yes, 4 X 256k does equal 1 meg, but 256k X 4 DRAMs do NOT.  That means 256K X 4 bits.  It takes 8 bits to make a byte.  So, this means that you have to have 256k X 8 to make 1 meg.  It takes 8 256k X 4 DRAMs to do that.  Sorry for pointing out the obvious- YOU ARE WRONG !!!!     :smack:

Actually... To be honest, isn“t Doom just a clone of Wolfenstein???

No.  Wolfenstein was the first FPP game, but it was the success of Doom that actually started the FPP 3D gaming era.  Even today, Doom is still so popular, afterall Doom 3 is coming !!!!     :-D
