WTB: Blizzard PPC accelerator
« on: December 07, 2005, 10:05:41 PM »
Not really Amiga on ebay, but only thing related to buying...

My current BPPC is a bit flakey, and I can't be bothered to mess around with it to get it stable. Therefore I'm looking for a fully functional BPPC board with SCSI controller.

PM me with offers. I can pay with PayPal.

As always, price depends on specs of the card.

@delshay

The BlizzardPPC setup is a 040/160/SCSI. Heat isn't an issue and the board get's enough power; the motherboard is fed through the original power plug connector by a 350W ATX PSU, power is going to the floppy power connector, and the BPPC is fed through the PPC fan connector.

The PPC board seems to work, ram is recognised, but the SCSI controller doesn't work, as it searches for drives for 2 minutes and finding none. SCSI settings are set correct, and the setup worked before with a different BPPC board.

I'm thinking the problems is due to some electronic parts missing on the board or a problem with the motherboard, but I'm to lazy to find a solution, so I'm taking the easy and expensive way out :-)

The cable is brand new, bought from AmigaKit less than two weeks ago. Haven't tried cleaning the connector though, but it's worth a try of course.

Still looking for a different board though...

Here is a picture of the card. The circles mark where there is missing components.

In the lower left corner there is a component missing, and the solder pads and traces is gone as well, so my solder capabilities will not be enough there. In the upper left corner the two components at the left needed to be resoldered, as the outmost was approx 0.3 cm above the board, and the component left to it wasn't making good contact. The upper right corner is missing some components as well, but solder pads are there, so should be repairable.

With the board inserted, the computer can't find any SCSI devices as mentioned, and can crash after half a minute or 2 minutes. When playing around in the BPPC menu it often crashes rather quickly, changing two or three setting and the computer locks up.

It is certainly not a setup problem, that side has been checked many times, and is set exactly the same as my old board. No bend leds on the SCSI chip aswell.

I'm guessing the missing components are to blame for the instability problems and the problems with the SCSI chain, or the rev 1D1 motherboard is causing the problems.

I'd rather save the money I would have to spend on getting it repaired, and get a different board without any issues. During the christmas holiday I will try the board in a rev. 1D4 and 2B motherboard with a 450W ATX PSU. If it still acts up, it's going to the bin.

@CLS2086

Thanks for the heads up, but I can't do it myself, and 100 EURO would already be half the price or more of a replacement BlizzardPPC board without problems.

@humppa

You might be right, but have gotten some offers through this board where the 100 EURO is more or less half the price I would have to pay, and I'm still considering those offers. I have also bought BPPCs through ebay which haven't had any problems.

@thread
As a side note; I decided to put up the A1200 this evening, and made some adjustments. I replaced the PSU with a 450W one, and installed a 2.5" laptop drive. The computer now runs more or less stable if I press S during boot to disable the SCSI controller, and everything else seems to work (PPC demos work, ram is seen and used and of course the 68k works)

If I boot without pressing S, the actual loading of Workbench takes up till 45 seconds as oposed to 8 seconds without SCSI enabled (and the time searching for SCSI drives has been deducted). If I boot with SCSI I also get a wierd requestor now and then

Fatal error

Unit -1 (or something absurd like 1854354)
Illegal script instruction exception

Serial or OK

Any ideas? Or does anybody know if I can make the SCSI controller invisable to the card by removing just one component other than the SCSI chip? Then I could at least use it as a BPPC board with no SCSI....

Still looking for a Blizzard PPC with SCSI controller, and in addition to that I could use one of the following accelerators as well

CyberStormPPC, more or less any spec
Blizzard 1230 MK4, preferably with SCSI controller
