I use most of my computers to tinker with software toys. I use my PC to play Fallout 3 and work from home, although not usually at the same time. I don't really do anything useful or creative with them these days, but I'm most productive during the late summer and fall months, so we'll see.

@takemehomegrandma

I'm really looking forwared to Fallout New Vegas, even if the graphics won't change substantially.

Bethesda's engines aren't always optimal, but when they're first released, they usually do novel things that eventually become standard. Can't wait to see what they come up with for the next Elder Scrolls game, assuming they're working on one.

Have you tried the recent HD pack for it?

I applied the large address aware mod (allows fallout3 to use up to 3GB), tweaked the ini files for larger cacheing and longer draw distances. Currently using the older HD pack which only changes a few textures but overall it looks superb

I don't have any third party mods installed, and I don't see any references to that stuff at Bethesda. Where do I get them? I'm also running Fallout 3 on 64-bit Windows, so the process has (theoretically) a full 4 GB address space to play with.

EDIT: Some of the "HD" textures look nice; others just look like "more," i.e. an original texture of rocks quadrupled to create a higher resolution texture of the same rocks.

I'm running on a GeForce 8800 GTS 512, and it's definitely the bottleneck in my system. Not sure how much more I can squeeze out at 1920x1200.
