Hi

I wanted just the same thing, so I tell you what I did.
Downloaded and installed AmiTCP3.3 from Aminet.
Removed all the included NIC drivers.
Installed suitable NIC driver (3c589 in my case - had a problem with this, but thanks to the Author, I received updated version).
Downloaded only smbfs.lha, not the whole samba package.

I observed some strange behaviour of SMBFS (two shares mounted at the same time went wired, too long time idle connection became sort of dead, renaming (moving) files using amiga templates over mounted share doesn't find all the files in one call, but repeting the same over and over again does the trick), but I use it only when I need to transfer files and files transfered are correct. I guess it's much less memory-eating than the whole samba package.

Good luck

@Piru

So this is your child?
Thanks man for that. :-)
And great news about this fix. :-)

@darksun

Well, what do you mean TCP/IP netbios?
If you mean Amiga-side, then I specified IP and netmask statically.For smbfs all other connection parameters are specified at call-time as arguments.
If you meant PC - I didn't touch it, but NIC had been working in PC-network for some time. What I did change is switching PC from DHCP to static IP/netmask. It has Win2000 on it. I didn't try to mount the other way - just one useful way is enough for me.

And I use crossed twin-pair cable 10BaseT.

I didn't measure neither memory usage nor transfer rates.
I'm happy it works. I switched from floppies. ;-)

@Piru

Well, I've used it yesterday again.
I have 1.59 - yes in the doc there is entry saying it is fixed, however it is not working, at least for 'rename'.

4 files named SDL#?

SMBFS: rename SDL#? archives/
[3 files moved]
SMBFS: rename SDL#? archives/
[1 file moved]

I didn't have the time to check in the sources by myself yet.

Cheers

Huhm... Haven't seen any samba guide in life. :-)
Just installed AmiTCP and unLHAd smbfs. Thats it.
Of course that means I do not have Miami.
I guess this netbios stuff is needed only to mount Amiga drive from PC.
I could start thinking about it, if the first direction didn't work.
But if the PC can do the hard job, why to force my Miggy to do that? ;-)
However I'm glad it works for you.

I do not use ftp, as my PC do not have ftp-server, my single try to install ftp-server that came with AmiTCP wasn't successful, and because mounting another logical device is more comfortable than ftp-ing.

Cheers
