......[snip] Artists are a dime a dozen, programming talent is rare, especially programming talent who would even bother messing around with this stuff.

I take *COMPLETE* offense to this!:madashell: I am *NOT* a "dime a dozen" and if you'd like to call me out on that, I'd be more than *HAPPY* to challenge you to a contest on who could build the better 3D model, animation reel, storyboard test, concept art, etc. Hell, I'll even challenge you to traditional, comic illustration, which is what got me in my "dime a dozen" field in the first place.

I've spent *YEARS* honing my craft and to say that programming talent is rare compared to the talent a *TRUE* artist has is rude. I can draw *AND* sculpt/model the *ENTIRE* human muscular system in less than 4 hours. Can you say the same?? :furious:

Good luck DJNick. Art, in itself, has made more contributions to human society for thousands of years, than programming has for the last 70 or so.

I never said they weren't talented, but honestly most aren't and most have problems following through and completing their tasks.

I've done work on both Mass Effect and Neverwinter Nights, for BioWare and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation for Midway and I can honestly tell you it wasn't the Art Department that was known for blowing deadlines......

Also, since you're not an artist, but a developer, don't talk sh!t about someone getting a machine to create new graphics for OS4 and put your money where mouth is. Why don't *YOU* start developing something useful for it.

My choice of profession has no relevance here. AOS 4 has no pressing need for wall papers, icon sets and other superfluous crap. It does however need a lot of work in the software department. The main complaints I hear over and over again are about drivers and applications. I don't think that pointing out that AOS 4 has needs to be met that are far more important than window dressing and you tube demonstrations is taking "sh1t" about some one getting a machine. I simply see it as inefficient, wasted resource allocation. I know you want to try and steer thin into "koaftder is talking crap about djnick getting a machine", and I think that's cheap and missing the point. I dropped my first comment when the bounty was half met.

Your choice of profession is ENTIRELY relevant here. You're a software developer. If you hear people complaining about a lack of apps and drivers, then start coding and porting them. It's not rocket science. It's your opinion to see DJNick getting a machine donated for the purpose of creating new icons and art for OS4 as and I'm quoting you verbatim in toto here, "as inefficient, wasted resource allocation", but my comments have nothing to do with him getting a machine, but about your comments.

You belittled people who choose to do art. Being a graphic designer isn't easy. You spend years practicing to draw, sculpt, paint, etc. Sure there are a lot of "hobbyists" that do art in their spare time and many of them aren't worth their weight in salt, but need I remind you of Windows Millennium? There are *EQUALLY* as many "dime a dozen" coders out there for every "talented coder". Your comments about artist's work being "crap" is rude, trite and insulting.

You make a comment about your artists blowing deadlines, having crap work, etc., but perhaps it's because of what they were PAID! I don't work for free and I don't take jobs that aren't worth my time, ESPECIALLY when the pay isn't worth it. I have friends who are coders that have to take jobs they don't want to do, 'cos our economy sucks. Plain and simple. Does that make them crappy coders? I think not....

You are entitled to your own opinions, but the people that chose to donate money to a guy who offered up new art for OS4 made their decisions and that's the end of it. A PROFESSIONAL artist takes PRIDE in their work. You insulted *ME*, 'cos you lumped all artists together as 2nd-rate charlatans who just try to steal people's money and give nothing in return, but sub-par work.

Once again, I reiterate that if there's such a need for new apps and drivers, since you're a software developer, start doing it.

Or are you just one of those "dime a dozen" software developers.....   :roflmao:
