At last I found an Amiga 500

Hi,
after a big search I found an Amiga 500. But I don't really understand it. So, I believe I can use all the information I can get :-D

I don't have much discs included, but I do have 2 floppy-drives. No hdd.

So, if you have any information I can use to get software or how to use it. It's welcome

I also own an Amiga 500, and I recommend you try and get some more memory, as well as a hard drive of some sort, as a bare minimum.  Upgraded your ROMs (which I am in the process of doing as well) would be recommended.

well you should not expect much of this vintage computer that usually has a 7.x mhz cpu. an a500 can play old games , and if u want to upgrade it , you will search a long time because parts are very rare , its gonna cost u , and u wont have a good machine for it. also u can get compatibitily problems , because some upgraded a500 wont read old games. if u want to use it alot with newer software , u should look into a 1200 or a 4000 amiga. to use your a500 you should first get all the cables necessary , including an a520 to plug a tv or you can get a commodore monitor like a 1084 , get the workbench disk for your computer , depending on which kickstart you have in your a500. workbenck is the operating system. for my part i have workbench 1.3 disk and kickstart 1.3 rom in it (they have to match) and use it for old vintage 3 1/2inch game disks. sure you should think about upgrading the memory at least 1 mb to play the games. memory expansion slot is under the a500(theres a panel). even games are hard to find so good luck.

Erm, yeah.  Basically get it plugged in, see what disks you've got, get stuck in :-)

With 1Mb of memory (which many 2nd hand A500s already have) you can play a whole bunch of games, some neat demos (State of the Art is a spectacular one), play MOD music files, and mess around in Workbench.

You don't /need/ a hard disk, accellerator, or updated ROMs to get alot out of an A500.

There is plenty of software out there, but it has to be found.  Try to find an established Amiga user group nearby, as having someone who knows about the old machines on-hand helps.

I`M A BIT OF A AMIGA NEWB TOO, ALTHOUGH A HAVE A A500 WITH A UPGRADE OF SOME TYPE IN THE BOTTOM AND A 600HD ALSO WITH A CHIP DECKED THING IN THE BOTTOM AS WELL, I DON`T KNOW A GREAT DEAL ABOUT THEM AND WOULD ALSO LIKE MORE GAMES. I HAVE A SHOEBOX FULL OF GAME DISKS, MY SYNCMASTER IS COMES IN VERY HANDY AS I DONT HAVE A DESK AS SUCH (ALL MY MACHINES SIT IN A BOOKSHELF WITH THE MONITER. IS THERE NO SITES ON THE INTERNET WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AMIGA GAMES THAT CAN BE PUT ONTO 3 1/2" FLOPPY VIA THE PC? WOULD SEEM CRAZY IF IT CANOT BE DONE AS EVERY MACHINE`S ROMS CAN BE DOWNLOADED FOR EMULATION.
ANYWAY WHAT WOULD STOP LOADS OF PEOPLE MAILING COPYS OF GAMES TO EACH OTHER, NO-ONE STANDS TO LOSE DO THEY?

IS THERE NO SITES ON THE INTERNET WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AMIGA GAMES THAT CAN BE PUT ONTO 3 1/2" FLOPPY VIA THE PC?

There are plenty of sites where you can download Amiga games.  The best one is Back 2 the Roots.  Everything on that site is fully legal to download and enjoy for personal use.  :-)

The problem is getting the disk images written back to actual Amiga disks.  A normal PC cannot write an Amiga disk.  Different hardware disk controller.  A hardware impossibility.    

There are two solutions:  
1) You can transfer the disk image file (ADF) to the Amiga, and write the disk on the Amiga.  Tutorials are out there for this.  Several are on this site.  
2) You can get a "Catweasel" controller for your PC.  This is a custom piece of hardware that allows you to use a standard floppy drive to write any format of disk.
