« on: June 26, 2004, 04:46:30 PM »

Hi  :

Thanks for your help

I visited some web sites that you gave me (about the Amiga Explorer)

What kind of files are these and is there any other extensions

that are special for the Amiga :-?

----------
And  if they are an amiga files

are they self startup files  (after transfaring them to the Amiga )

or I have to use the Workbench.

---and another thing :
(Were can I find a free workbench 3,0)

-----

Excuse me for my questions but I also need information about the

Amiga OS
------------------------------
 * A Last thing : Excuse my Poor information about Amiga

An lha file is a compressed archive, similar to a .zip file.

Have a look on aminet (list of mirror sites here)
for command line or GUI`d decompressors.

As for other "amiga specific" stuff, they can include .lzx (similar to .lha),and .dms (compressed disk image).
.adf and .adz are also a common way of distributing floppy images, mainly used by the UAE emulator, but it`s possible to use/ convert them on a real amiga too.
On schedule, and suing

For what it's worth, I think WinRAR can handle LHA files.

What's a medium requset, is that like a long-tailed marmoset?

;-)

Directory Opus and the PD program Ordering, both of which are
excellent and essential Amiga file managers have inbuilt LHA
decompression buttons.

Just put LHA into Workbench:C/ and you'll be fine. The latest version
of LHA is best as it fixes Y2K problems.

They do say though that LZX has far better compression ratios. Plenty
of GUI-based tools on Aminet for decompressing/compressing... you just
need the little files that go in C: like LHA,LZX,DMS,ZIP,RAR,unTGZ
etc.

((( :-) )))

Hoya!

The most convenient thing is getting the XPK and the-other-ones-I-can't-remember-the-name-of packages from Aminet.

Thus, you will have almost EVERY packer on the planet! :-)

That pretty much sums it up.  There's a Windows 32bit executable version of LHA that supports long filenames BTW, but only on the command line, WinZip will support the older DOS version of LHA but is aware of it's filename truncation.

As for a 'free' copy of workbench, if you get a real Amiga it'll come with it or you can buy Amiga Forever and get Workbench 1.3, 3.1 and 3.9 thrown in with it.
