Sure.

I don't mean to sound so miserable.

I can believe that you are trying to help in one way or another. But I've seen a lot of people say similar things purely to rough up a few feathers. So I take some convincing.

As I suggested, I agree in part to some of the things you said. But if I totally agreed with you, personally I wouldn't bother coming here at all! Which is why I have a hard time understanding what brings you here.

That's all.

Anyway, take care. Don't take the insults too personally. You gotta admit it's understandable that some people are reacting the way they are. But I'm sure if you try being a little more constructive and less insulting you'll find we are mostly a decent bunch of zealots.

Hi all,

Since hanging around these forums, I have noticed how some people can get so 'hot' so quickly. I used to be like that too. Once upon a time, I almost got into a physical fight with a neighbour of mine who insisted PCs were better than Amigas! But I've grown up since...

Personally, I agree with a lot of what YourPal has said, and didn't find it all that offensive. I myself am really really keen to get a uA1, with the beautiful AOS 4. Everyday, I spend every other minute refreshing my browser on sites like amigaworld.net, ann.lu, and of course this one, to see if there's anymore news. So I do really love the Amiga, and so badly want things to work out for it.

At the same time, I am REALLY apprehensive about spending that much money on hardware that is underpowered (by todays standards), that could end up being a flop anyway.

People wonder why YourPal doesn't just stay away if he hasn't got anything 'nice' to say. Well he's already explained how much the Amiga meant to him in the past, so of course he's gonna have an interest in what's going on now. Maybe we should listen to what he has to say with an open and clear mind, without getting too hot and bothered. We can accept what we accept, and reject what we don't. So much can be learned by listening to people who have different opinions to our own.

I too have my own views on certain things, maybe, when I pluck up enough courage, I'll post them up here...

Regards,
The Captain

Ooh, you're good.

"It's not my fault that my calling you names makes you mad."

Let's see, there's "overzealous", "infantile", "relics", "hacker brats."

You also try to save us from ourselves.

"In case it hasn't sunk in yet and I can save a few souls from depressingly idling on cloud 9 with respect to the platform..."

Plus, you say you've followed the Amiga community since 1985 and you've managed to ignore the fact that this community has heard "Amiga is dead, you should get a real computer." since, oh, about 1986.

On the troll-meter, I'd give you an 8 out of 10.

People, ignore him, he's trying to start something.  Yes, he has the rights to his opinion, but you don't have to answer.

P.S. "Troll" doesn't refer to the fairy-tale creature, it's what a fisherman does to capture certain types of fish.  Don't bite the hook.

Look, what dont you go to some pc forum and slag us off because really what you are saying we have all heard before so its nothing new is it???
Most of us have been thinking bad thoughts over and over but still try to keep a positive spirit about it all i mean why else would ppl spend god knows what on out of date amiga 1200 hardware for so many years???
This whole argument isnt going anywhere because everyone here is an amiga user someway or another if it be os3.9,morph os or amiga 0s4.0 or even aros.So yeah your post is just old news really and i dont even know why myself or other ppl are even taking notice of it..
Sorry to sound as if i have a bad attitude but after spending over £1000 on my amiga 1200 since around 2001 you are telling me stuf i read ages ago anyways. So if you are happy using whatver machine you are using then thats fine go ahead and enjoy it but dont bother trying to turn ppl off what they like to use ok...

Usenet != the word.  That's not the point.

You used it as the sole foundation of your original argument.  "OMG TEHY ARGUE IN CSAA" was the crux of your point, IIRC.

To quote one of the denizens of that august body:

"Backpedal."

Oh, and someone else has already mentioned but for you to feign SHOCK I say SHOCK at your treatment here - to the point of VERILY LOSING YOUR MONOCLE IN YOUR BRANDY SNIFTER OLD BOY due to your SURPRISE - is utterly ridiculous.  First, everyone here is a hacker brat etc. ad infinitum.  Then, nobody has a right to get pissed off at you.

I, too, really enjoyed using an Amiga and I, too think that the bits and pieces people use to keep them "up to date" nowadays are way overpriced but y'know what sweetie?  I don't give a damn, it's someone else's hobby.  I watch (and occasionally post) 'round here and elsewhere out of interest for OS4 and the A1 and it's evolution.

You, babycakes, are walking the worn-to-the-stone path of OMG TROEL TEH AMEGA USORS - and it's about as funny as it was in, oh, say 1991.  The fact of the matter is that some guy in Scotland buying a PCI riser card for his A3000 doesn't rob you of either jack or {bleep}, but for some unknown reason you can't handle that.

I've got a new target for you, oh mighty T800.  Why don't you find an SGI newsgroup/message board and go tell them that their machines are out of date/stupid/useless and they're fools for hanging on to them and updating them?

What's the matter?  Lack a little backbone?  Go now!  The city is in peril!  Go, mighty Avenger, go!
Back away from the EU-SSR!

Okay, This is going nowhere or at least nowhere good. So, I'm locking this topic.
