How many times can I erase and re-use a rewritable CD, practically speaking?  I guess it depends on the age and quality of the media, but what are peoples' experiences with this?

Well I have about 10 or so that I use to burn video cd movies to and watch them on my DVD player. I use the same two for that. They are about 3 years old now. I'd say I have over 100 burns on those two disks. The others I add and take files from every day to move things from my Amiga, and now my Pegasos from the PC. These are low qual GQ brand too.

Wow, cool :-)  I was expecting a number like 10 erases/rewrites.  That's perfect.  I needed a reasonable solution to dump a quick bit of software on a CD-RW for a customer, and bought 10 CD-RWs for that purpose (I use CD-Rs normally for backup stuff).

i have used my TDK one about 50 times :-)

Remember -dont copy audio( as in CD player ) to it :-P

I know someone whos done over 60 successful writes, just bear in mind that scratches will drastically reduce the reliability ;-)

I wasn't planning on it, but why?  Because some CD players can't read CD-RWs?

I recall it is something like 1000 times of erasing and rewriting. I've six years old CDRWs and they are still fully operating.

I have 2 CD-RW's and using them since 2001. They're from VERBATIM and on the back they guarantee that they can be written about 1000 times. That's what i know.

And by the way, isn't erasing those CD's something like "writing" on them again? ie re-ordering the magnetic structures to empty state. Guess that would reduce it's capacity to 500 real useful writes, or not?

Burning a CD has nothing to do with magnetism.

How it *does* work.
