How do you convert adf files to real Amiga-discs?
« on: May 22, 2004, 04:36:47 PM »
Hello!

I have lots and lots of amiga games, albeit in adf-format for winUAE. Recently I bought a real Amiga. Now I'd like to play the adf-formatted games on the Amiga-machine.

How can I convert the files?

Thanks, Pantofis

The problem might be getting the ADF files from the PC to the Amiga (I use the CDRW I got in my PC and burn them on a CD that I let the CDRom in my Amiga munch on... unless it's just small amounts then I just use a HD disk as all my Amigas have HD diskdrive :).

Once there it's easy... I use DevCopy to transfer ADF files onto disks... it can be found on AmiNet.

if u can get the disks onto your amiga, then it's way easy.

I use ADFBLITZER og tsgui, both are very simple to use. Available for free on aminet.
Cheers!

Thank you very much! I have found the files: adfblitzer.lha, devcopy etc.

However, try as I might I cannot run them!

The extraction was half-successful at best (using lha213.exe on MS-DOS), and none of the extracted files was something I could handle.

As you understand I'm really very new to all this. Could you help me?

Thank you, Ivan

P.S. I also own a 25-pin nullmodem-cable

@pantofis

Those programs are for the Amiga, since the PC cannot write Amiga disks.  There's a howto here on the Amiga Wiki which might help you - anyone else here is free to add to it.

Hi, it`s Pantofis again!

Well, I still can`t convert adf-files for my Amiga.

Perhaps I should state what I have: I have an Amiga 500, a PC and a Nullmodem cable.

As far as I understand, a PC won`t write amiga-discs.
That means that as long as I don`t have a terminal program on the Amiga, I`m not able to do any transfer whatsoever.

Could anybody send me a terminal program per mail?

I have also found a little basic-program for Amiga that is supposed to be "transdisc". However it won't work, because the drive needs the "Workbench"-disc everytime the "Basic/Extras"...

Can anyone help me? Maybe someone can recommend a step-by-step site or something for people with very little Amiga-knowlege.

Thank you, Pantofis

Well, if you don't have at leasta Workbench disk, then I can't see how it can be done...

You must try to find out someone in your area who can copy (or someone from far away who's willing to mail you) a disk containing Workbench 1.3 (and, why not, the Extras/Basic disk as well).

If you have a cd burner try burning them in iso2 format the amiga should see the files and they will keep there long file names. Iso1 will work but the file names will be shortened. Hope ya have a cd burner on your pc and a cd player on your miggy.

I got it to work with these instructions. Since I have the Amiga Basic disk, I used method B. I have a similar amiga as you do: A500, 1Mb RAM, extra floppy drive...

One suggestion is to use "Amiga Explorer".  It's not free, but it's cheap and it's well worth the money for copying files from windows to the amiga. Not sure how much ram you have, but you might be able to copy the adf to ram, along with the adf to disk program and create disks that way.

AmigaExplorer can be installed via null modem cable (no disk needed) so you can buy it online and use it immediately if you have a null modem cable (radioshack still sells these).

Not necessary. I use Amiga Explorer, and you can copy the adf image directly to disk, (also NDOS disks).
You only need the standard workbench 1.2/1.3 disk for it.
