A1200 Serial Connection
« on: May 13, 2004, 10:39:45 AM »

I'm trying to connect my A1200 to my PC via a null modem cable..........using the serial connection on the Amiga and the COM1 port on my pc. I've been told to keep the settings the same on both machines for the connection to work but for some reason in my Prefs folder (Amiga) I have nothing to edit.

I am using workbench 3.1. Can anyone help?

Hmmm... There should be a serial prefs program in the prefs folder - if not it should still be on the original disks, Extras 3.1 I think has it. Thing is though, a lot of programs that use the serial port on the Amiga have their own preferences and override these settings, so you may not need it at all. Have you checked the program itself? What software are you using?

Im using Amiga Explorer but I need to get it onto my A1200, this is where its becoming difficult. I have a standard Amiga, no HD or CD drives yet and I'm booting WB3.1 from the original floppies.

It's a laplink cable Im using if this helps.

The prefs programs are on the Extras disk, they do not fit onto the Workbench disk. Install Workbench on HDD, then all programs are in their correct places.

My advice is:

Make backup's of your original WB disks.

The Serial Preferences is on the Extras disk, then on the prefs:

Baud Rate: 19200
Input Buffer Size: 4096
Handshaking: RTS/CTS
(the last ones leave it has it is)

Then save it, so the next time you boot from the wb disk, you don't have to do this again.
Then, follow Amiga Explorer instructions on how to transfer the needed files for Ae run on the amiga.~ :-D
