Which memory is faster?

Hello,

I've got an A4000 with CSPPC, and I've got a question about the memory...

Which is better:

* To strip any fastram from the mb and only use csppc slots.
* To put as much ram as possible on the mb.
* No diffrence.

16 more or less doesn't really matter, as long as it doesn't slow the machine down in general.

While I'm at it, what xfer speeds can the scsi module on the csppc reach?

As far as I know, your system will use the fast CSPPC RAM first and only use the motherboard RAM when it runs out, so you're quite safe to have both.

The CSPPC SCSI module does about 20MB/s.

Leave all the memory in. The slower mb memory has a lower priority and so will not be used unless the CS-PPC RAM is used up.

At least 17MB/s ( http://www.amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2001-04-00067-DE.html ). I'm sure mine did 20MB/s.

When I was still using my A3000 and a CSPPC card I tried it both ways and never noticed anything. So my guess was it didnt matter. I've also heard the CSPPC RAM is used first. Also see if you can find 60ns RAM. MAke sure your CSPPC is also setup to use it. Hold the ESC key at bootup and look in to see that the 60nc RAM is selected. Its quite a speed up.

I stripped the ram from the motherboard in my A4000 when I installed my CyberStorm mk2.  (Well, except for the CHIP ram, of course!)  

I did notice a slight speed increase in benchmarks vs having motherboard RAM instaled.  Not more than a half percent, though.  Mighta just been moon-phase or sunspots.  ;-)

Certainly, though, you want to put as much RAM as you can on the CSPPC.  Put the leftovers on the motherboard, if you like.  If not, the absense hasn't caused me any problems...

The theoretical throuputmaximum of the UWSCSI on the CSPPC and CSMKIII should be 40MB/s. According to the definition of the UWSCSI-standard (AFAIK).
I managed to get 23 MB/s out of my best drive in real live.
I heard of people to reach as much as around 30 MB/s. 15 MB/s should be archived easyly by any UWSCSI-drive on that controller in syncronus mode.

I have two drives, 29 and 30 MB/s raw speed. And 144 MB Ram, no difference I suppose.
