Internet Explorer and BT - help!

When we got a new PC I installed the BTOpenworld CD again to connect to the net, which I know you need to do to get a file so you don't have to go through the bollocks that is re-registering (or re-activation or whatever they decide to call it that day).  Now, you are supposed to use a file on that CD (that someone from BT tells you about), enter the user name and password and away you go.

Not anymore.  I phoned them up saying that that didn't work anymore and they told me I had to just set up a new connection, fine, that was done in about 20 seconds.  Got connected to the net and had to download a BTSetup file and use that instead of the connection I had just made.  Ok, that's a bit strange, but hey, it worked.

Now, Internet Explorer was working without a hitch (Sioux needs it for CSA pages for uni) until I created 2 profiles (I had decided to install everything then create the profiles to make it easier for the shortcuts and individual program profiles).  The original profile can use IE no problems at all, but the 2 new profiles get BT crap about register now or later and you can't use IE at all  I can't register because I already have a usernam and I can't log in on the page (if you could call it that) because it doesn't work for anytime users.  I've uninstalled the BTSh*teProgramsRUs and IE.  Reinstalled them and the same thing happens under the new profiles.

Is it just me or does this kind of thing severely piss you off aswell?  We've only had the PC since Saturday and I'm already threatening to chuck it out of the window  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:

Someone with a brain please tell me how to get IE to work as normal as possible.

You don't need to install the BTo software.

If you're on BT anytime, the dial-up networking number is:

0808 9933001

If you're on payg:

0845 7560000

You set up your dial-up networking connection, and the Internet software you want, and hey presto.  No yucky branded browser crap or buggy dialler software.

and use Opera (or anything NOT IE). IE is Sh*t. :admonish:

Why use IE anyways? Cant you use mozilla-firefox or opera instead?

Are you suggesting we should do some drastic user-agent blocking?

Over half (last I checked, 56%) of AO users use IE.  Sad, but that's what the stats said.  Better than a lot of sites though, where the average IE usage is 9x%.

Opera 7.23 can't handle the CSA pages at all here, which sucks majorly as that's the really important stuff Sioux needs the net access for :-x

I'm not installing any more browsers, Opera and IE is all we need, and I've had too many problems before with other browsers, and I've already spent 3 days installing and configuring this PC, I don't want to waste any more time on it.
