Breakpoint 2004 en masse
« on: April 16, 2004, 02:32:41 PM »
The second annual Breakpoint demo party was held in Germany on Easter in the vein of MekkaSymposium. Amiga fared unforeseeably well with the best productions seen in years!

Check this out: 11 demos, 4 64 kiB intros and four 4 kiB intros. Many said the Amiga demos there were far superior to the PC demos (what else is new?).

The productions are available at:
http://jpv.wmhost.com/releases/
http://breakpoint.untergrund.net/

Don't miss Ikanim, the winning 4K intro from Loonies, and the demos Silkcut by TBL, Heart-Core by Iris, Respirator Stories by Ephidrena, Live Axxion by Up-Rough and the demo with the IMO best soundtrack of the year: Carbon by Tulou.

The previous are 68k by the way.
So you have the strings in your palm. Do you know what they are for?

Yeah! Amiga scene ruled at Breakpoint! Nobody expected that much demos and releases. Lately very quiet scene made some big noise :) I loved Heartcore, Silkcut, You are completely anonymous etc demos.

Some videos if you don't have Amiga to watch them:

http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/misc/demoscene/incoming/iris_-_heartcore_(divx_320x240).avi (demo, 060, AGA)
http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/misc/demoscene/incoming/loonies_-_ikanim_(divx_320x240).avi (4k intro, 68k, AGA)
http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/misc/demoscene/incoming/uprough_-_live_axxion_(divx_320x240).avi (demo, 68k, AGA)
http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/misc/demoscene/Amiga%20Demo/tbl_-_silkcut_(divx_320x240).avi (demo, 68k, AGA)
ftp://ftp.klosz.art.pl/pub/scene/incoming/mwi&spd-fdsvideo-azzaro-sie-wkurwi/mwi_spd-fluffy-digital-snowflakes.avi (demo, Pegasos)

Forum doesn't seem to like () in urls, so you have to copy&paste rather than click :)

@-D-

While i'm not disagreeing that Silkcut is a brilliant demo, and deserved to win, the tunnel is a little bit of a cheat :)

To me, it looks like an animated texture mapped onto the inside of a cube. Normally, still textures are mapped onto the inside of cubes to give a panoramic view (often of a sky backdrop in demos). Here is an example: (requires quicktime plugin) http://www.panoramas.dk/fullscreen/fullscreen32.html

You can see this if you look carefully, because the tunnel rotates more smoothly than you travel down it.

So, it not an animation per-se, but the tunnel itself is an animated texture.

Note that this is how it APPEARS to have been done, I haven't seen the source code or anything :-D
