AmigaOS Demo CD for PC
« on: January 08, 2003, 03:07:41 PM »
Hello
I read about DemoLinux and Linux Knoppix CD distribution that can run browsers, open office etc without installing /touching the hard disk. The Linux distro use Ramdisk on memory.

Demo Linux

Knoppix

Is it possible to create similar Demo CD for AmigaOS 4 / 5 / AmigaDE and AmigaOne board?

yes.. just takes some work and reading alot of manpages and trial and error. We've just completed doing a CD which does that and a whole lot more here. SuSE has something they call EvaluationCDs which you burn and tries out their OS without touching the disk. Based on isolinux, afaik.

Shouldn't be too hard to fix something that can boot up a PPC from CD. Linux already does it, debian has bootable CDs for MacPPC.. so one can look at them and then decide what to put on the CD and then look at what to launch at bootup.

A nice tool, but for what purpose? I'd much rather have the OS installed on the machine..

These are interesting times we live in. New machines in progress, new AmigaOS in progress.. userbase slowly, slowly growing..  which is a success in itself.

Been using a Knoppix CD for quite a while and it really is superb to get a feel for a fully set up linux, plus it can be installed on harddrive if the user wants it.
