midi-out speed OctaMED 8 running on A600GS
« on: April 18, 2025, 05:45:03 AM »
Hi All,

Firstly, thank you to Amiga Kit for making the A600GS / OctaMED 8 combo real !

I have never used an Amiga computer before, but want to run OctaMED to send midi-out data to sequence an external sound module.

My question is: will there be any difference in latency when doing this on a A600GS / OctaMED 8 system (using a usb-to-midi converter)
compared to the 'older' Amiga systems (like 1200)?
I understand the 'older' Amiga systems (like 1200) had very little midi-latency when sending midi information to external devices via the serial port, and am wondering if the same will 'hold true' of an A600GS running OctaMED 8 to control an external sound module via usb-to-5 pin midi.

Thank you in advance for your advice:)

The A1200NG has a serial port. That would be a good test; USB to MIDI Adapter vs the older serial MIDI interfaces in the A1200NG!

Thanks for pointing out that the A1200NG has a serial port! I had overlooked this in my research!

Perhaps it reveals a lack of knowledge on my part, but I am unsure whether any [potential] midi latency is related with hardware considerations.    i.e:
- A600GS with USB midi
or
- A1200NG with 'serial port'

....would be interesting to know more in such a comparison!     thanks for the reply

Maybe you can test it, once you get yours?
