Amiga game selector
« on: February 16, 2025, 03:14:35 PM »
Does anyone know if it’s possible to get something like the Amiga Game Selector working, and if so, how? I found the AGS 2.6 real hardware disk image (hdf), but it doesn’t work. I think its size was over 10GB. I recently managed to install OS 3.2 using instructions, but I’m not a professional with these things. 😁

What happens if you use 3.2 Rom when trying HDF, as that will boot from large drive without issue.

The problem seems to be that the HDF image has FullDrive/RDB selected. In WinUAE, the gameselector hdf boots normally. Is there a way to remove this feature or create a new HDF and copy everything into it without rdb feature?

Yes, under HDD tab in WinUAE, set size you want for new hdf and then click create. Do not tick box for Full RDB.
Then format it in workbench and copy all data from one HDF to other.

Have you had any success in the meantime? Is Amiga Games Selector now running on your A600 GS? I would be happy to receive a reply from you or a short report on your experience. Thanks.

Isn't AGS multiple HDF files? It won't let you import multiple HDFs. I guess you'd need to use the custom option for importing?

Yep, its just a big hdd with game zips containing WHDLoad stuff.
The problem will be size of drive and kickstart used. Unless it supports large disks, it is not going to work.
Unless you use uaehf.device or folders.

Have you tried it, using AROS roms? as I would imagine its been fixed for larger drives.

Ah ok, so I found that Real Amiga version, which is one giant img file. I copied that into ~/games as AGA and tried launching it on the A600GS.

The result was a prompt for ENV: to be inserted, then pressing cancel resulted in no further progress.

Changing Kick ROM and launching again leaves with just the Kickstart prompt, whether that's using 3.1 or AROS.

It's a start I suppose.

For env: click cancel and type                  assign ENV: RAM:            then press      enter
Then type           execute s:startup-sequence               then press       enter

See what happens.
