Problems installing applications in Amibench
« on: August 09, 2024, 12:24:09 AM »
I've been trying to install various applications on Amibench with mixed results, I seem to get a lot of installer problems.

I've tried to install vbcc (vbcc_bin_amiga68k) and get a Software Failure! error.

Program Failed
Task : 0x40F2D908 - Installer
Error : 0x80000006 - CHK instruction error

Nobody?

Can anyone point me to a programming language known to install and work on the A600GS?

I must be the only person trying to install software. (?!?)

So today I'm trying to install AMOS.  AGAIN with installer problems.

I click "Install AMOS" and get:

Program Failed
Task : 0x401EEF00 - DF0
Error: 0x0100000F - Memory header not located
PC  : 0x00F8DB30
Wait for disk activity to finish.

I press Continue and I get error 0x1000009 - Memory freed twice.

Then Amibench starts reloading/redrawing VERY slowly a few times and locks.

I have to F12 and quit.

Hi there  :)

I installed Maxon Tools by copying it over from an old backup. It runs but something crashes (it does not show pictures on buttons; the buttons are there though and working).

I also copied a few ADFs over with programs I would like to install. Has anyone tried mounting ADFs and which tools do you useif so?

As soon as I'll get to installing some stuff, I'll report back.

If you're in Amibench, you can mount ADFs by pressing F12 and choosing it from the menu.

So far, I've just had no luck getting much with an installer to actually install.

Even SysInfo killed Amibench.  Had to the bootable disk image version instead.

Yes, I'm also having issues installing new software on Amibench.
I do have the impression that it's an installer issue, because if I do all the install steps manually (how fun ...) it works.

And yeah, Sysinfo is of course the first thing that everybody runs, so it would be nice if that would crash AmiBench :-)

I replaced the installer with the one from aminet.
(Backed up the previous one, of course)
That seems to fix the installer issues I had.

I downloaded two installers from Aminet.

installer.lha doesn't work, video corruption and programs still fail to install.

installer-43_3.lha same problems.

So back to square one.

If ANYONE has been able to install ANYTHING on Amibench, please tell me how you did it and give links to whatever you used.  Short of doing voodoo I am out of ideas.

Hmm.. sorry to hear that.

I took the one you mentioned:
https://aminet.net/package/util/misc/Installer-43_3

and copied over the "installer" file from that one in the C folder.
I installed quite a few programs after that without any issues.
(It does complain often "please insert volume HD0: in any drive" but that seems safe to ignore)

Can you give me an example of a package you're trying to install? I'll try to replicate your issues.

Ah!

I've realised what is wrong.  I have two copies of installer, one in C: the other in SYS:/Utilities.  So I renamed both to Installer.BAK and coped the installer from Installer43_3 to C:

So far, so good.

The weekend! Finally a little time to "play" with the A600GS  :)

Thanks for hinting me towards F12!!! - Could have seen that myself *duh*  :o

Wanted to report back that I tried to install MaxonPASCAL on HD, but it failed when swapping to disk 3. Inserting disk 2 went just fine, but I had no luck with changing to disk 3. :(
Changing disks does not seem to be the most stable ;) Or did I miss another trick here? Is it possible to insert more than one disk at a time?
