AEC-7732 UWSCSI-to-SATA ODD (losing my @$$ sale)
« on: April 13, 2018, 09:02:29 PM »
Welp, these were an ill-advised purchase and they've become an albatross.

I lose my butt, you benefit.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/122675057007

These are factory-new.  For optical disk drives, only.  WILL NOT WORK FOR HARD DRIVES OR SSDs.

The price is firm (offers below are automatically rejected.)

I remember having read somewhere you can change the firmware so it would work with hdisks?

I heard that too but never really looked into it.  If someone want to try it, more power, but I ain't.

I was kind-of surprised but thankful and happy all at once.  I didn't realize at the time I purchased them that the exchange rate and shipping would price me out of the running, but yeah, four sold so that's good.

The short is the haul is here in my storage.  I've had a chance to go through some of it but mostly to grab some stuff I want for the upcoming VCF-SE.  In particular, there is a silver 64 with one of the 5-pin video motherboards and all socketed chips from the factory.  Seems to be quite a rarity so I'll have that on display (at the TI table, of all places.)

You might be thinking of the AEC-7722 which is an Optical IDE to HD-68 SCSI adapter.  And yes this works, but it doesn't have termination so it's a little finicky.  Don't know about the AEC-7732, maybe that's possible as well, though I don't see a ROM on the AEC-7732, might be on the SATA side.
