I was just driving home this morning, when I started indicating to turn into my drive about 50 yards before it, slowed down, put the hazard lights on and bammmm! A van goes into the back of me.
Anyone who's been in a road accident will know about that moment that seems like an eternity.
I could see it coming on too fast in my rearview mirror, and was thinking to try and accelerate again to get away, but it was too late, I was on my way into the ditch at the side of the road, and this is when the adrenaline kicks in. I was thinking when it hit me and my car started to move forward "please stop" - the hedgerow brought me to a rest and the car was laying diagonally so my drivers door was underneath me. So I climbed out the passenger side [I know it'll sound silly, but I could hear fuel trickling and was worried (only temporarily)] so I leapt over the car onto the road. All the guys who were in the van that went into me got out and asked if I was okay. I was, just floating on air...and in fact I was thinking about getting out the newspaper in the car that I had bought but not yet read.
Just gone out and taken a photo of the skidmarks, and from where the police marked the end of the skid to where they start is about 35 yards. The police asked me if I could see the car behind skidding, and I just don't know, all I remember thinking is that it wasn't going to stop....
