Indivision ECS with widescreen LCD
« on: January 08, 2016, 03:55:13 PM »
I'm assuming it doesnt work with a  "wide screen" LCD?  Mine complains.  I have a non-wide screen, I'm assuming thats all I can use?

My Indie ECS works perfect on a 19" widescreen LCD! Workbench and games work great! I use 800x600 with WB. The scan-doubler is one of the best ever made by Jens. Brilliant! :)

Mine complains that the resolution recommended is 1900x1200 or something similar and doesnt display.  I get a brief "Indivision ECS" screen and then the monitor switches.

Of course it works.  Or are you asking specifically "does it have any wide screen display modes"?  It supports any standard monitor driver, I've got the "HD720" drivers installed (1280x720), but haven't tried them yet.  Pretty sure HD720 only supports 4 colors, so it'd be of limited use.  But the 800x600x16 color mode looks great on my 37" screen at home, fills it completely.

Other modes will have black bars on the left & right sides unless I stretch them (using the built-in functions on the TV).  All of this is exactly as it should be.  ;)

Probably 1920x1200.  WUXGA.  That's not the Indivision giving you that message, that's your monitor.  Maybe it can't sync to the video output of the Indi, but that would have to be a rare monitor, indeed.  I've hooked up to dozens of different monitors, TV's, and projectors, and never had an issue.

Both of my widescreens do that.   But my standard form factor LCD doesnt.   There isnt anything special that I do, correct?  Just plug it in.  No keyboard shortcuts to access some features pre-boot?

Nope, just plug it in.  Probably should update it to 1.10 firmware, but that doesn't affect the initial display (that's just to use 800x600 mode).  If you put the Indi config tools on your system it gives you the option to switch between 60Hz and 75Hz output, if I remember the numbers off-hand.  Maybe your monitor needs the higher?

I can check on mine to confirm those numbers a bit later.

What is the brand & model # of your monitor?

For reference, here's a screenshot of the Indi ECS tools.  They're a lot less complex than I hear the Indi AGA config tools are.  ;)  I've also attached the readme as a .zip.  Hope this helps!

Works fine, using it with a 27inch Philips and before that a 26" Samsung. With the above error you need to adjust the Indi using the Indi tool.

It's hooked directly to the monitor, correct? No adapters or anything in the way? Can you try with a different cable? I just briefly checked the specs on that monitor, see it has both HDMI and a VGA input. Can you try manually selecting VGA or forcing VGA?

Yes, direct to the monitor.  Still, same message, even when I force it to VGA.

I've never seen a monitor it wouldn't work with "out of the box", but do you have the tools downloaded?  Try this:

In the Config tool, press the Mode button to toggle to 1.25, save settings, and then try to connect.  "Mode 1.00" = 50Hz in PAL and 60Hz in NTSC.  "Mode 1.25" = 62.5Hz in PAL, and 75Hz in NTSC.

I'm just guessing, but it's possible yours might be configured to "Mode 1.00" and this might be just a hair too low for your monitor to display.  I've always run mine in 1.25 and haven't had any problems.

No tools..not even workbench.  LOL.  Once I get my CF drive in, I'll get it configured and then I'll update this thread.
