I wonder if you were installing over the top of your 'cluttered' boot partition by mistake instead of the new one. Anyway, moving on... Glad you're over the first hurdle, but personally I'd liked to have known what the problem was so that other future users can be informed if the same issue arises.

It sounded like a startup-sequence, boot priority or filesystem issue to me.

I am 100% sure I was not installing over my cluttered partition. I disabled it before doing an install every time. All I know that as soon as I pulled the old SCSI II drive out and put in a Ultra Wide on the CSPPC it installed and booted perfectly.

This mediator is a PITA!! I forgot how much work it takes to get it all up and working from doing it in the past on my A3000T. I'd had hoped it would of gotten easier by now, lol.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure when you create an emergency disk after setting up the initial OS3.9, it will copy over the 060 libs to the floppy disk, at least that seems to have been the case with mine.

I was laughing because my other guess was "did you possibly label the hard drive as DF0: and it was getting confused?"  I wouldn't think so, but that would have been funny.

I'm going through the same process for the most part, fresh install, bb1, bb2, picasso/mediator/roadshow, bb3, bb4... but then the problem is all the things that make the OS more usable, like magic-menu, etc.  Seriously, going from Magic-Menu to no Magic-Menu is so painful...

I had a full on Amikit for Real setup, but it didn't agree with me losing the cyberstorm mk1, and would give me memory errors and crash.  But it started doing the same to me after I installed BB3, so not sure what was going on there... so was going to start over from scratch again :(

Good luck and have fun getting it set up again!  Part of the adventure, I figure.

Im starting to think its got something to do with the hard drive formatting now. I disabled every partition  in early startup except the new one,  selected boot without start up sequence and still get the "no disk present in device DFO"

Im thinking of trying a new drive on the csppc scsi port. Its faster anyway. Any other ideas?

Oh if I pull the drive and put a new one in,  will my emergency disk still boot 3.9 from cd to install clean?

I'm reading that a valid OS3.9 boot partition needs to be in the first 4GB of the HD space.

IMHO if you want to keep it compatible with older and "not so system friendly" software, keep it as the first partition and under 500MB.  Your mileage may vary.  ;)

I am having so much of a hard time getting my Mediator working that I put it on hold now. I'm stuck figuring out why AHI prefs wont run. I have AHI.device in devs, but when I click the prefs program it gives an error that it cant open AHI.device version 4 and I have 5.x installed, even replacing that prefs app gives the same error.

Setting up mediator I am at the point of installing P96, renaming the Cyber64 monitor to Voodoo and going into the prefs to setup a screen mode. When I do and select test it crashes my amiga and reboots.

Went in and installed BB1 and BB2 and decided to install Poseidon 4.5 just to get it ready. I can find the Trident pref icon to change the MUI stack size to 34000 but I get a nag screen that the Poseidon Popup (PoPo) is still to low, where the heck is the icon to change it??

Waiting for Elbox to send me the latest spider.device so its ready to go as well if I get my Voodoo 5 working. All other stupid PCI cards depend on that, and I hate burning a CD-R to move files over. I cant get my A4000T to read a CD-RW so its getting crazy as I find things I keep forgetting to move over.

Ordered a BigRam 256MB ZIII from Individual Computers after reading it will infact work with a mediator 4000T.

I also broke down and just ordered a Radeon 9200 256MB PCI from Elbox alone with a ZIII Riser so I can have my RAM in the top ZIII slot and a better Video card that has the 5v mode done to it out of the box.

If anyone can help with that POPO stack size issue and the AHI problem and recommend a list of must install items so I can stop wasting CD-R disk it would be awesome. Its been a long time since I setup a machine from scratch and its starting to burn me out with the number of hours I have in on this now.

If OP will forgive me for asking a somewhat related question i have been gnawing on for some time...

I have an X1000 with os4.1FE and several A1200's with both cf and hdd.

On my X1000, i have a hd docking station and cf-reader. Is it possible to prepare a cf or hdd for an a1200 with sfs, partitions and all? i recon i need the sfs.lha and to put the smartfilesystem somewhere or load it in Media Toolbox somehow, but has it been done, and how do i do it?

I have backups of my old a1200 drives on a partition on my X1000, and to be able to prepare a cf or hdd on the X1000, copy over the preinstalled WB3.1 or OS3.9 and just putting it in my A1200, would be SO much easier than first installing 3.1, then hooking up a cd-rom, then installing OS3.9 and then configure everything as i want it.

Anyone? Mike? :-)

LOL.  I swear, if I wasn't already working 16 hours a day and could figure out the licensing, I'd start a business of making 3.9 CF cards with all the BB's, already prepped with PFS and other core utilities.  If only.  ;)

Would almost suggest it to AmigaKit as a business model, seeing as they already sell prepped 3.1 CF cards, but with every Amiga system being so different and customized it would be almost impossible to do.  :(

Getting further! I got my mediator working mostly now. Voodoo 5 is active and I am building screen modes. Ethernet working, but I need a new card. I forgot this was a slow card and not a fast. Sound is working, and USB is still needing some help. It has failures in poseidon. Waiting to hear from Elbox for the latest spider.device and I hope that will fix it.

As far as Poseidon goes, does anyone know where the Poseidon Popup app is stored? When my system boots up I get a warning that the MUI application Poseidon (PoPo) stack is to low and to continue anyway or exit. I changed the Trident app in Prefs, cant find the other though.

Seems like using MUI 3.9 was the issue. I ended up keeping the DH1: install of 3.9 clean with CSPPC and libs, mediator working, still the MUI3.9 on it and a few minor updates.

I took DH0: and put on the full 3.9 version of ClassicWB and installed the last MUI3.8 update to it, mediator, PPC updates and libs, roadshow, Poseidon 4.5 and am currently investigating the ability to remove some of the stuff I don't need in it, but its working well.

Its a much better start at least than plain 3.9! I now am attempting to figure out why I cant get my Terratec PCI (FM801) card to output any sound. Its the only card in the Mediator not working. I also need some better screen modes in Picasso96. I have a nice 1024X768 and a 1440X900 currently. Others I try don't seem to show full on my 27" Samsung monitor. Voodoo 5 is a stange card and I am waiting for the Radeon 9200 I ordered from Elbox to arrive along with a riser.

Sounds great!  Glad you got that MUI problem resolved.  ;)

Are you using the latest P96?  AFAIK, here:  http://lilliput.amiga-projects.net/Picasso96.htm

I don't know much about Mediator / Radeon 9200, but you might need to go in there and manually tweak some of your screenmodes, or create new ones that more closely match your setup.

Cheers, good luck!  :)

Using the latest avail P96 from the 3.9 CD. I know an Alpha version is available that's unofficial but am a bit scared to install it. Will it update my current install and leave my working screen modes alone?

That is a very good question.  I actually didn't know there was a version of P96 on the 3.9 CD, when I installed mine I went straight to the new version on the web.  Keep in mind that anything on the CD is probably going to be as old as 2001-2002, whereas the one on the web says it was last updated 1-NOV-2014.

Usual disclaimer about updates applies: it probably fixes a bunch of bugs, and adds a bunch more in the process.  ;)

If you're concerned about mucking up your current settings, you could probably make a backup of your ENVARC:SYS/screenmode.prefs and the contents of DEVS:Monitors, just to be on the safe side.

Check out that free FastRAM!! 402.8MB free!!!! BigRamPlus and Mediator 4000T is a success after busting my butt and countless hours of PCI card moving after looking at address space between every swap and a reboot!

Order that worked in case anyone would like to try it out is as follows:

From bottom of A4000T moving up.

1. FM801 Sound Card
2. Voodoo 5, 5500
3. Spider 2 USB
4. RTL 8139A Ethernet Card

Top ZIII in line with video slot had my BigRamPlus

Nice!  The cards in my Mediator (A4000D) are (going from top down) Spider 2, Ethernet, Radeon 9250 then Mediator board.  Then I have in Zorro slots, the ZorRAM (I  should probably send that off to get it updated to 256mb instead of the 128mb, since I lost my fast memory :( ) and a FastATA MK VIII.

I still need to spend some quality time with my Amiga so I can use her again...

Been getting my Atari Falcon online, or at least attempting to, in between playing Elite: Dangerous.

One thing I've noticed when getting back into the Atari vs the Amiga is that the Amiga is much easier to get (considering where it starts) insane amounts of memory.  It's also much easier to find software (thanks to Aminet, I had to ask around for where I could get more Atari stuff).

Also of course as always, it's easier to get a working desktop on the Atari (pretty much all in ROM!)  but hardware projects seem about equal, though may projects for the Amiga are plug and play, whereas for both the ST line and the 8-bit line, a lot of them require soldering.

Sorry, bit off topic, but kind of interesting.

Much like the Amiga and it's choices of 'ready made shake and bake Workbench setups' the ST line seems to have a few variants on MiNT, most of which are pretty out of date.  I made a joke elsewhere about porting workbench 3.1 to the Atari ST now that the source is out there...

Congrats!  I remember a while back there was some guy who loaded up his system with RAM boards, had something like 1.25GB in there.  I forget who it was, but it was pretty awesome seeing such a long number across the top of the Workbench screen!
