Something that just sprang to mind...why are there only going to be 500 of these computers made? That's extremely limited. There must be thousands of Amiga Users and Gamers let alone billions of human beings on this planet lol. Just seems crazy.

Producing more than 500 of those expensive systems?

who do you think will buy it?

Yeah, but since some people thought it would be under 1000€ ...

the low sales of custom hardware must cover the high expenses for development. People only look at the lower part prices of the processor.

Probably because they won't sell more than that.

There must be thousands of Amiga Users
Many of whom are not interested in the X5000. For them Amiga means 68k+OCS/ECS/AGA. They simply aren't a market.

Well 68K. yes, I am rather fond of that.
The old graphics chips? Nah, they weren't that fast when new.
Similar thing with Paula, frankly I'd rather have dual SID chips.

Since the 68K can be emulated by JIT translation, I'm fine with new hardware.

In fact, its been months since I have fired up legacy hardware.

As to the 500 X5000s originally planned for, if there is market demand more can be produced.

The question is, where do they think they are going to find 1000 people that want Tabor?

Really? I prefer PCM over a SID style synth. With PCM you can at least listen to mods (including XM, etc.) and WAVs properly.

is it? It would be only feelable if loads would be balanced automatically, that is not easy to implement.

there was this from february:
http://blog.hyperion-entertainment.biz/?p=1184

it sounds like they are far off even starting with the complicated parts

Yes, I read that too back in Feb, and that is why it is not available yet.  But the whole reason they were discussing it was as a lead up to the implementation in the future; otherwise they would have ignored the X1000's other core and never brought it up.  "Genius: one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."

Kudos to A-EON for making this possible. It's a tough, tiny market that would make most 'business' advisors wary of ever going into it, even more so when it comes to innovating and producing new hardware.

I'm pretty sure they went over and over again their cost calculations and managed to squeeze the lowest price possible without shooting themselves in the foot.

"The question is, where do they think they are going to find 1000 people that want Tabor?"

It sure depends on the price of the machine, if it's really low then they could sell them.
Since nothing in this card is custom it's probably an existing design, they just build them so the cost should be low IMHO.

I am not going to buy an X5000 and a Tabor, and I am waiting for OS4.2 to purchase the X5000.

Someone might have mentioned this before but I can't remember. When the AmigaOne X5000 is launched does it come with OS4.2 or will this be released later? Thanks.

it will ship with AOS4.1, at least according to steven solie's Q&A at amiwest.

Will it have a free upgrade to 4.2 when it's released like with the X1000?

probably not -- but i don't think that's been announced one way or another at this point.
