I use my X1000 everyday and never once regretted selling my Samflex@800 to get it!  Now both AmigaOS and MorphOS have a solid standard future platform to build on

If MorphOS does that it will be a game changer, long time coming though. I can finally ditch my crappy old Mac and build a nice PC instead. Fantastic.

Yup. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if many people who would love to get an X5000 to run Amiga OS decide to get the "next best thing" instead and buy a cheap x86 to run MorphOS x86, very, very fast. I wonder if they Hyperion will decide to take the same direction then.... Just thinking out loud here of course.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against X1000, X5000 and similar endeavors. It is just that at the asking price these do not interest me. If I had 500,000 Euro sitting casually in my bank account, I'd get one though

e5500(or e6500, for that matter) based SoCs only support USB 2.0. Since it's not a consumer oriented product, it's not a big drawback for it's intentional market and primary use.

not to mention that, at least for the moment, neither AOS4 nor MOS support USB 3.0. and once that changes, we can always add a PCIe card for that.

Maybe the next product after the Sam460 is a collaboration between the two companies.

THAT is not as far out as some might think.

Lets see, there are cheaper e5500 cored cpus than those used in the X5000.
A-eon doesn't cater to the lower end of the market.
But A-eon and Varisys now have built an e5500 based machine.

I don't know what they're waiting for...although, I'm not privy to any inside information by any means, they may be working on it as I type this. with that said, it would be nice to dump my 11 and 12 year old hardware and build a really nice Intel/AMD x86 based system to run MOS on.

 Funny, I like my "second hand" laptop (an iBook) under MorphOS.

And I'm old enough to still carry some baggage about Wintel machines.
Although I've been resigned to them.

An ISA switch may help the Amiga "hardware" problem but it makes the "software" problem worse. Even developers which want to support the Amiga after looking at the small market will wonder how they will develop for all of the following.

AmigaOS 3.x 68k (includes UAE, FPGA Arcade, Mist, etc.)
AmigaOS 4.x PPC
MorphOS PPC
MorphOS x86
AROS 68k
AROS x86
AROS ARM

There is no single compiler install which can target all of these platforms and testing would be ridiculous. The amount of pre-processor conditionals for all the different APIs, ISAs and ABIs is already out of control when trying to support them all with a single source. We need standards and consolidation for the Amiga not more dilution and fragmentation.

Not necessarily. Once applications are in a higher language, you would only need to recompile. It is the API that matters, not the microprocessor.
