I usually see these going for about twice as much, and noticed this guy has a few left for around $10.

I notice that none of these cards have a master/slave jumper, which means they are probably cable select only. This in turn means that they might work in an Amiga, but only with the one card attached to the IDE cable.

I ordered one, but for my Amithlon set up, though I hope there is a jumper, I'm not sure how it would work without one, unless it is just designed to be master and nothing else, in which case the Amiga should in theory be able to use it too. In fact I can almost swear I've seen users using these on their Amigas already.

As for me, I am going to format it under MorphOS or Workbench, and see if I can get Amithlon to read it. If I can, then I don't have to bother putting it on a network, removing the drive to write to it under AROS, or wasting money burning CD's for each and every little file I forget.

I have this but it truly is a PITA to set up. got it working in my a1200 with os 3.9 hdtoolbox and a 512 mb sd card.
but it is a PITA to set up. and it has to be alone on the cable. if i added the cdrom. it did not show up in early startup. not even when properly formatted.

I really recommend this since it has dip for master slave setting. and i can verify it works quite nice in my a1200, together with a cd-rom drive. sometimes they can be a pain to set up. but os 3.9 hdtoolbox have allways found it on my a1200.

The fun part is to put it inside a pc afterwards and use it in UAE... :D

I've got a few variations of those sitting around too. And you are right, some are more a pain to set up than others.

The cable select functionality will still use a master/slave setup, but instead of a jumper, it's the connector of the IDE cable used which determines if the device should be master or slave (hence the name "cable select").

The problem is that cable select really isn't supported on the Amiga, and it will get confused if there are two devices attached to the IDE cable, where at least one of them is set up to be cs. Another type of device which have this kind of problems, is slimline IDE CD-ROM drives made in the later years.

My guess is that cable select is something that was added to the IDE standard some years after the A1200 was released.

And yes, setting up these type of cards can really be a PITA sometimes :)

It is adapters of this kind I have had most success with as well. Even the 40 pin dual card versions has worked fine for me, and I currently have one in each of my A1200's. 44 pin dual card adapters on the other hand, was more problematic. Here only one card, or none of them would show up in HDToolBox.

No worries, I don't have a slot based Amiga to put it into anyhow. I'm sure my Amithlon machine will be happy though. None the less, I think actual Amiga users should avoid my post at all costs from the sounds of it! :)
