Does not look like the schematic is going to turn up. The link above might give you a reasonable substitute to look for.

Because the 1080 is built by Toshiba, I don't see how the other monitors built by other different manufacturers would help in this case, i.e., each different monitor would have a different schematic and would not be anything like that of the Toshiba.

So, Commodore Amiga did not have a design built by the cheapest bid, but just listed specifications and let that manufacturer built it any way they saw fit?

If Toshiba doesn't have the schematics, then just buy another one, preferably one you can get repaired.

Ah... but which Toshiba?

The point is getting this 1080 repaired (and all following 1080s that need repair).

They would only help if they used the same ic's. I once used a Toshiba schematic on a Magnasonic TV because they both used a TA 8680N main ic. The circuit around the ic was similar enough for me to find the problem. Certainly not ideal, but desperate times......
A working 1080 would help for comparing voltages, waveforms etc., but nothing beats a good schematic

Robert,

 I have a service manual.

 Model 1080 A Monitor  P/N 314041-02

I dug it out and will get it scanned shortly.

Hopefully it will help you out.

I quote from post #10:

"No, I need the 1080 schematics, not the 1080A.  The search continues..."

Ray Carlsen responded to the above idea with this --

"Yes, sort of. With both monitors open and running, voltage and waveform checks can be compared. That assumes the tech can follow the signal path. It's still a lot tougher without a schematic, even in a working monitor. It might be worth a shot though. I hate to give up on anything. I think I have a working 1080 myself."

So, there is a ray of hope for my broken 1080.

Ray has not given up.  Here is his latest update --

"...your encouragement to compare readings from a working monitor inspired me to try again with yours. With that technique, I did find one IC that seems to have all inputs but one pin has no output. Bypassing that IC brought a picture back so I'm going to order a replacement chip. I say with crossed fingers, you may get a working monitor back. :-)"

Yeah, that was one of my favorite methods for a real "dog" (hard to fix unit). I've even used it when I had a schematic. Some schematics are better than others showing voltages, waveforms, others just show the components. Glad he's  on the trail now.

It's fixed!  This is what Ray had to say about it --

"...your monitor is repaired! A bit of luck was involved as the problem was localized to the rear interface board where one IC resides... and one part of it was indeed bad. I just got a few of those chips in and that fixed the video problem. Yay!"

Now all I have to do is to drive up to Washington State and pick it up from Ray.  :)

Congrats.  Great outcome.  Hopefully the $damage$ is not too great.

A drive from CA to WA?  I'd do that drive any day!  Gotta beat Washington DC area traffic, and all this snow around the northeast right now!  :P
