well  once  again  i have found another pcmcia  network card  which i have  been assured  will work  with  my  a1200 (3rd  card ) ..i have  high  hopes  this time ..it is  wireless this  time  so  somehow  ill have to  get it to  talk to a non wireless network  or  talk to my laptops  wireless card  that i cant  find  drivers for  now ive  updated it to win 7  from  xp  ..once  i get  it  and  my 1200  says  yes its there  ill no doubt  be asking  lots  questions  ..forgive me in advance  ..but  one day  i will log into  this site  from my 1200 ..i have a dream  ..:>

If you plan to use your Win 7 machine to bridge a wired connection to a wireless one on the A1200, then "good luck," "God Bless," and "May the Force be with You!"

An 8-bit Ethernet (hard wired) card is the easiest, but if you use a wireless card then get a Bridge Device (http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR702N-Wireless-Repeater-150Mpbs/dp/B007PTCFFW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1412809213&sr=8-3&keywords=wireless+bridge) to convert to a wireless signal.

Wireless cards on the A1200 have caused tomes to be written on how to get them to work and Amigakit sells EasyNet for this purpose, however you get support from them if you buy the software/hardware combination

I have wireless on my A1200 and it wasn't that hard to get it up and running using plain old AmiTCP v3.x.
In reality, I don't use it, it's faster to use CF card to exchange files.
I did it so I see if I can get it to work, because so many have problems.

I tried with my A1200 and couple of browsers and not very pleasant experience. Even Amiga.org doesn't look good on classic Amiga browsers.
Personally I would use Amigas to get files from Aminet, ftp sites, some Amiga friendly sites, or just chat on IRC, but most sites are not very accessible.

You can't connect from one wireless endpoint device to another. The protocol doesn't work like that natively. You need a wireless access point to connect to. On your network.

Unless of course you use a crossover wave.

Simplest way would be to just add a cheap WAP (Wireless Access Point) to your existing router/hub/switch.  I've had good luck with the D-Link DAP 1360 on the consumer end, but the much cheaper TP-Link ones work just as well for the most part.  Or simply buy an all in one Ethernet router with wifi built in and skip the WAP portion of it.  I highly recommend any of the ones that are capable of running DD-WRT firmware, like the Linksys WRT54 series.

Creating an ad-hoc network via a Windows PC is not terribly difficult, however.

I find it to be unnecessarily complex, though.  Such ad-hoc networks are more intended for one-off on the fly access, I've always found it extremely redundant to have to have a PC/laptop on at all times to serve out the wifi when a WAP can be found for under $20.

Hi I spent 5yrs trying to get my A1200 on line then I bought a pcmcia network card from good old Amigakit  and Roadshow and was on line quicker than you could make a cup of tea ,certainly the best thing I have ever done and surf the net like a pro,best wisahes Brian.

There's a proxy site for amiga.org that works fine on classic Amiga browsers.  Strips out all the unnecessary junk.  I've used it myself many times with iBrowse on my A2000.  Let me know if you can't find it through google, I'll fire the old girl up and pull it off my favorites list.

Having to have a $500 to $2000 laptop powered up and online at all times to serve ad-hoc wifi is a poor solution in the world of $20-$30 N routers and access points.  I prefer wired anyways, esp considering the Amiga doesn't support up to date wireless protocols legacy side.  I'm not running my AP's with WEP or basic WAP, not for any amount of money.

But yes, it's doable without much effort.  A matter of a few clicks, in fact.  But I fear the OP might not have the technical skill for it.

I recommend the OP just gets the EasyNet kit and goes from there.  It works well.

After 3 different failed attempts at what is usually a very easy process for anyone with basic knowledge of the internet, best to keep it simple.  No offense intended.  The EasyNet package is as simple as punching in some numbers.  Long gone are the days of configuring every stinking AmiTCP file via CED.
