The Amigakit Joystick
« on: August 17, 2014, 05:00:14 PM »
Today I completed my "evaluation" of the AmigaKit joystick.

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=52&products_id=1172

Mine is the version with the buttons on the left hand, and the joystick on the right.

My "evaluation" was - specifically - playing the Great Joystick Destroyer known as Speedball II.

This morning I completed it. :) Straight to the top of Division I, first attempt. I even managed to slaughter Super Nashwan by over 200 points (which, naturally, involved a lot of blood and ice cream). His centre-forwards didn't stand a chance.

My only complaint is that the plastic isn't rounded off vertically. This means that resting my left hand on the joystick while battering the fire buttons ends up chafing somewhat, causing a bit of soreness. I think a bit of rubber would do wonders here. I may put a bit of vinyl insulating tape down the edge to stop this happening in future.

The important thing, though, is that the joystick survived as good as new, despite a lot of bloodshed from the rival teams. As someone who has destroyed many an "indestructible" joystick playing Speedball II, I believe this counts for something!

"Review" over. Hope it helps someone. :)

Have you tried throwing it at a wall when you lose a game?  :)

Nice to see a "real world" test.  I'd still like to see a "fighter jet" joystick come out.

I didn't lose many games. :)
Plus I think that would damage it.... the wall, that is.

looks like a sturdy stick but personally I like joysticks that fit snugly into one hand. Thank goodness I've got enough spares of my favourite Wico and Slik Stick joysticks to keep me gaming for many years to come.
