Help needed to build a very small adapter (BlizzardPPC)
« on: June 20, 2014, 12:17:50 PM »
Hi everyone !

The ppc.library (PowerUP) into the BlizzardPPC firmware fail with zero fastram available
when 1 Mb Kickstart plugged in the rom sockets.

So, we need to remove this ppc.library from the firmware and put it if needed into
Sys:Libs/ on the harddrive...

I have disassembled the last firmware v44.71 and removing this library is simple now...

But, the original TSOP eeprom 29F040 have too tiny pins, and soldering/desoldering is
a bit risky you know... I want to keep safe my beloved BlizzardPPC...

So, I need a very simple adapter, only tracks and zero components...

It's a 45 minutes job under Eagle (I need a .brd file for http://www.oshpark.com)

Anybody wanna build this adapter ?

Thanks in advance !

:)

If you want connect to the existing rom you'll need an expensive test clip.
You could take that rom off to read it and put it back with a $50 hot air rework station, some flux and kapton tape.

Even with hot air, soldering is risky : tiny pads can go away with the heat...

I think he knows that ;)
When you remove the flashrom many Times it increase the chance to break a leg or a trace. More over it takes about half an hour and not all people have the skills for.
Good idea Cosmos !

The ppc.library was compacted : I depacked it and it's the v46.35...

The last ppc.library released for the CyberStormPPC was the 46.31...

Of course, for fixing this adapter on the BlizzardPPC, I'll use "scotch" in french : http://www.castorama.fr/store/Adhesif-double-face-special-miroirs-22-mm-PRDm123100.html

Without the ppc.library, I have now about 332 Kb free into this new v44.72 firmware...
