By far the simplest method is just using a serial null-modem cable plugged into an online PC. If you have a PC running Linux/Unix/BSD or a Mac you can connect with a small program called MultiLink.

This is what's involved: The Amiga and PC are connected via the serial cable. A small command is installed on the PC side and can be run from startup so it's always ready to accept the Amiga's connection. On the Amiga side you open a Terminal program and establish the connection with the PC. You run the Multilink program on the Amiga, and you can close the Telnet program. You now have a fully working internet connection using the PC's TCP/IP stack rather than running one on the Amiga.

The connection is surprisingly fast, faster than a 56k modem really, completely acceptible for browsing the web, chatting on IRC or even running a VNC client, having your PC's desktop (and modern browser) accessible in an Amiga window or screen, multitasking away with your other applications.

If your PC has a serial port then it probably also has a PAR port which is 8x faster and just as easy to use, once you buy the appropriate cable.  Its just a cable wired a certain way not some exotic expensive thing.

Networking with PAR (parallel port) is so fun that it is very very quick to transfer files back and forth.
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA

Whoa, the plipbox is awesome!  I already have a PCI network card in my Amiga 4000, but I kind of want to build one of these just for fun.

As for MultiLink.  Fun idea, get a Raspberry Pi, mount it internally inside the 4000, set up Multilink to connect to it for Internet from your 4000 without having a huge PC tower nearby.

For A1200s the best way by far is to get a PCMCIA network card. Consider that before anything else.

Hello I have a A4k 3.1 WB3x and I'm running 512GB CF
what would be a easy way to get me on the internet with that system.
Is there a serial networking to PC type access ?

The easiest way is to buy a zorro nic and roadshow.  If you want to save a few bucks and find link it used...

I think I have a copy somewhere... pm me if interested...

If you have a bridgeboard and $2 3com card- etherbridge does work, but is a little cumbersome. I am running it on my 2000 and satified (for the money).
