If it aint' done with two or more 1210's and slabs of vinyl it ain't DJ'ing IMNSHO.

Sticking a few tracks into Ableton and auto beat matching them is no talent at all.

Get off my lawn! lol

Whilst you can not beat the sound of vinyl , I think there is a place for digital djing,  either time coded vinyl or cd to using thinks like trakor.  There is room for building up sets on the fly with loops and samples.

Whilst I agree that taking the skill of beat matching, mixing etc out of djing is a no go,  to me a big part of it is picking the tunes and the performace.

Cant beat live Dnb with a live drums and instruments :)

I remember 4Hero's album back in 97 was the first I remember using live instruments for DnB and then Roni Size not long after.  Good times indeed.

I sold my decks in 2003/4 before digital DJ'ing became popular. My younger cousin is into that Psy-Trance type stuf they play in Goa and swears by CD decks and Traktor.

Did you get the PM btw?

Yeah he used Amigas, think I read somewhere that he still does occasionally.

I wouldn't classify him as live instrument performer though. ;)

Don't get me started on the pointlessness of David 'one tedious trick' Guetta... :pissed:

@bloodline,

Do I sense some musician dissatisfaction here.

You wouldn't be a wee bit jealous now would we.

True.

What I should have said "Live instrument DnB musician"

There is a recentish trend of actual traditional bands playing DnB with a real drummer, live double bassist, trumpeteers etc with no computers or synths/samplers or other electronic equipment. Barring amps obviously. :)

You bet, I would love to make millions for using the same one bar sequence of 8 regular off beat notes on a loop throughout every song I've ever done!

I've just bought Logic Pro X now and it's actually really very nice (not much love for synth players, but enough to keep me going) :)

Who would be jealous of that silly french tit. his music is awful he has started working with pop bands, and for some un-known reason has become the poster boy for electronic music in America.

And He is not even close to being a decent talent in his sub genre of electronic music

He is? I thought it was that talentless Skrillex geezer who was America's poster boy?

I'm basing this on info acquired from my son, I'm just not cool enough to know who's cool and who isn't these days. :)

I never bothered with 9... But it is a remarkable jump up from 8 (which was something of a waste of money from 7... Both of which cost stupid amounts)... FlexTime and FlexPitch make screwing with Audio much easier... The interface has been much improved too so for £130 it has to be unparalleled in the DAW space... I'm still itching for Reason 7 though :-/

I guess I need to have a son, I have no idea who any of these people?  Bands?  "artists"?  You're talking about even are!  Although I've heard the name Skrillex before in Facebook posts, and people on there say he's awful.  ;)  Now get off my lawn! #shakesfist

I use LP9, FLS10 and Ableton 8. Depending on what mood i'm in.
