An evil council of magicians using an amiga 2000?
« on: January 11, 2013, 06:00:37 AM »
Of course they do, what other computer would an evil council of corrupt magicians use?

http://www.subcultureproductions.com/preview.html

The password for this preview page is "friends" no quotes.

The amiga 2000 is featured starting at around 48 seconds into the video.

Someone here helped me with the amiga shots... I can't find his original email... So special thanks to an Amiga.org member for that footage.

This is the rough edit of the first proof of concept video for a very different
kind of show for me. Its really technically crazy, using a great deal of specially built techno wizardry, and projected ghost effects inside our warehouse of insanity. I wanted to create a really different kind of illusion show, which used alot more technology than most guys use.

The ghost effects, they look so much cooler in person, really hard to capture
that on film effectively... Seeing this stuff live in your face coming at you is
pretty awesome.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated...

The work continues...

Steven

I haven't seen that many cuts in one driving scene since "Manos" The Hands of Fate

Yes a promo for a new kind of magic/illusion show, which is using alot of technology...

On the driving scenes, I'm new at this film making stuff, but I've learned that the more cuts the better sometimes, to hold the viewers interest.

I'd like to do more amiga scenes in the next one, maybe a room full of amigas being the evil councils secret super computer. THAT would be awesome.

I don't remember evil wizards in Friends.  Was Phoebe Buffay one of them?

Music and sound effects partially created on an amiga BTW.

Not really. A well-timed cut can re-engage the viewer by showing them an interesting new angle on what they're watching, but note all those qualifiers: it's what you're cutting to, compared to what you're cutting from, that's the point of interest, not the mere fact that you've broken visual continuity from the previous shot. Something like that driving scene, where it's simply a succession of marginally-different angles on the same exact thing, none of them particularly interesting, is just confusing.

Okay, cough it up then, you can't just post something like this and not give us the details.  Actually, just what city it's going to be in.  If it's a thousand miles away, nevermind.  ;)

I never did a driving scene before. Honestly, its not something I thought a lot about, just wanted to show the character driving to the warehouse. Next time I'll try and storyboard a more interesting way to film a driving scene.

These warehouse illusion shows will be in Philadelphia,pa.

Hey, it's amateur filmmaking, you gotta start somewhere :D

Overal production.. I liked it, Solid A- score. Got a higher quality version we can see?

Technical feedback, the good and no-so-good ....

Not-so-good
Car scenes in the beginning... too many cuts, also driving by the same pile of trash by the road  in white car with bland white storage tanks in the background. ick. How about use some of those special great effects to make drastic changes to the mood and scenery of "the arrival".  Exit car more slowly while scanning the surroundings for.... whatever.

Intro commentary... Not bad, but totally needs more emotion. Bit more dramatic pause to some lines. Some polishing on the wording. Example ...

Original...
Well My friends this is the story, the story of the Renegade Magician. Some say he left when some council members tried to stop him from learning the forbidden arts of magic.

Plaz edit sample...
Myyy friends.... let me tell you a story.... of the Renegaded Magician.   Once a member of the secretive and powerful Council of Magic. But no more.   Some say he left when his desire to learn the ancient forbidden arts was.... denied.

Stage lighting a bit dark for serveral scenes but maybe that's just and artifact from video conversions.

The good...
Magic performance is great, creepy puppets and twisted characters.... cool.
Background music sounds good and matches the theme well.
Special effects very nice. Bunnies, who doesn't love bunnies.
Magician stage presence very good, but seems a bit crammed in with the stage scenery. Necessary for the vid shots perhaps.
Screaming skeletal ghost..... worth watching over and over. :)

So when do I get a gold ticket? Oh and I'm available for voice lessons for your commentator.  ;)

I agree with everything you said, but going to try and apply lessons learned on the next one. Building this stuff and getting everything working was a big challenge.

Some of the video shots may look tight because the space we are filming in is not so large. I'm going to try mounting a camera on the back upper corner next. I'm hoping the shots will look wider then.

I have a higher quality render, but my web service only allows 200 meg files. The hq version is 240 megs I think, its just much higher rez.

YouTube?

Heh, poke me when you've got the details for when the shows are going to be.  I might actually come check it out, a bunch of my friends skate banked track roller derby up there in Philly back in the warehouses, I've been up there to skate before, probably not too far from you.  :)

Loved the intro, very well done. The voice over was bang on.

You could adjust the colours to make it a darker feel but overall very good.

Would love to be apart of something like that, one day when I'm a millionaire I'll have to come watch the show :-)
